I'll agree that the one in Bishop is the best. I only have patronized Lone Pine when coming off of Mount Whitney. Have tried Pizza Factorys in Mariposa (I think that corner burned down,) Oakhurst, Placerville, and Coeur d' Alene. Coeur d' Alene was second best and way less expensive than California.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I agree with Balzaccom...if it were a lottery, more people would be involved and chances would be more like winning Super Lotto. I don't believe that your computer system or internet provider has that much influence on your success. I have been able to secure reservations almost every year since they were available on the computer. I really messed up by pulling the trigger too soon...nervous knee jerk reaction...clicking the reserve button too early. I had the message that inventory wasn't available and thought I was doomed, but I clicked again and I still got my campsite of choice in Lower Pines. I could only wish that SoCal Edison would cut trees by the power and phone lines on our property! They don't cut them down, but trim branches. They do trim to the transformer on one corner of our lot, but many wires criss cross over to our neighbors from there. Related to the subject, the Round Fire nearby in February was caused by power lines, as was the Pole Fire, in 1995. The two fires tby hikerchick395 - General Discussion

Thanx for the pics! I am surprised how high that pass from Virginia Lakes is...I assumed it was lower. ( I haven't hiked out of that trailhead before. I've just done the out and back to Summit Lake from the Green Creek trailhead.)by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Oh yeah...I made it up to the diving board May 2014. Hot day again. Went up the same way as previously with my Merrills instead of my worn sole heavy boots. Made it up fine, but decided to try going down through the brush and got "cliffed out" a couple of times. Which required climbing back up the sand on granite, one step up with a half a step sliding back. I really would've prefeby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Did it as a dayhike from Sunrise. Drove up from Yosemite Valley, leaving early enough to avoid the Tioga Road construction...they were just setting up. Happy to see the rocks exposed to cross the creek. Seven of us including 3 noobs. And the longest hike for my husband, so far, with his new hip. It was quite warm, too. hulkman75...just got back from 19 days of camping...in the valley June 14, then moved to Tuolumne June 21. You had a clear day on Half Dome compared to our hike up Clouds Rest the 19th...had smoke from a fire in Wawona and elsewhere. your pics on Half Dome look like the day we had on the 16th?by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I checked my photos from last year. We had a split group of 16 and I was the sweep. Left Happy Isles at 5:30am and were all on the sub dome at 10:50am. Some of our party had to wait for us, the trailing end of the group, by the permit ranger's command that we had to proceed up the sub together. We were supposed to be together on our descent, but the guardian ranger lady wasn't present then.by hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

On a lot of day hikes, I find myself on my feet all day and not taking the time to stop and eat my snacks that I bring. I usually munch something on my drive home.
