Update on eateries in Bishop. El Pollo Loco is moving into the old Burger King building. And Perry's Italian (moving from Mammoth Lakes) will be across the parking lot in the same Cottonwood Centerby hikerchick395 - General Discussion

I agree with Dave...Half Dome Village should've just been Camp Curry. And I think Delaware North changed the name to Yosemite Lodge at the Falls after repairs made following the big flood. Any change in Housekeeping Camp's name?by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We got coffee at Curry a couple weekends ago and the breakfast offerings were more cafeteria style plus the items usually offered at the Coffee Bar, which was closed. But that all may've changed in the past couple of weeks....by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The piece of china I bought was used, from the dining room. I guess we'll get a report from someone what shows up on the dining room tables after today. Our centennial t-shirt has Half Dome on the front and only Yosemite National Park on it. I got a Find Your Park pin that says Death Valley National Park (got it there, of course) but, so far, those weren't available for Yosemite. We wereby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Being in Yosemite last weekend, we stopped in the Village store before going on a hike and noticed that souvenirs were 25% off. But there was quite a markup on items as compared to last year. My annual Half Dome pin cost $5.95 last year (too much for China crap but...) The 2016 edition is/was $8.95. Couldn't get myself to buy it and now regret that ($6.50 with discount...) This was on the other end of the valley when there must've been nice color at Horsetail Falls (20 Feb 2016)by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This one was from 11 Feb 2011. Desired color but early in the time window so the sunlight didn't narrow to light up only the falls. This one really did glow red to the naked eye. (And in the river reflection!) This year (2016,) last week some photographers got light on the little falls on the left side of Horsetail, too. That's about the extent of the color as was on Friday the 19th. Traffic was crazy but I believe the worst, ever, was Saturday the 20th. edit: The count on the south side drive was 300...some guy was running around counting folks. Oh no...missed Saturday night. Braved the crowds on Friday night and couldn't bear the much worse traffic on Saturday. People were watching from places that didn't even illustrate the phenomenon...saw photos from folks who said, yeah we saw it and showed me pics taken from El Cap meadows or Tunnel View. What a zoo! Unlike your visit, the next two weekends should be very busy. With mild temps, a holiday weekend this upcoming one and loads of photography workshops scheduled, it won't seem like winter. We went February 20 last year and it was as busy as a summer day. Too bad the fire didn't burn the ugly paint job off of the gas pumps. (Seriously, I'm glad that they survived.) We decided to give the Lodge some business in 2012. Got gas at the historic pumps and it was probably the big purchase for their day (King's Canyon had just opened to Road's End.) We filled up a full sized truck.
