Wow that photo of Tenaya Lake is gorgeous. We got a supplement to the snow pack with the recent storm. Mammoth Mountain got more snow in two days than the entire month of March. (42" versus 30" Here, north of Bishop, we recorded 2.4" of rain in 30 hours.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yes DWP is out and about, putting in new culverts, cleaning ditches and creating new channels to flood pastures. We've already had what I consider minor damage, mostly on dirt roads, from snow melt on warmer days. But, myself and others are looking forward to see water flowing in the Bishop Creek bypass.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Finally a little bit of shuttle service will start this summer up Bishop Creek. The ESTA will start a morning and afternoon round trip from Bishop to South Lake and Lake Sabrina on Memorial Day weekend. The shuttle will run seven days a week from June 7 to August 13. Then it will run weekends and holidays from August 19 to October 25.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We have the damn trees and limbs falling in our yard. One branch fell today. That being said, understand that we had some wet snow which piled up on the branches. Many, many branches cracked and it was downright scary to be out shoveling snow. A lot of branches did not fall, though, and they remain precarious until the next wind, or the following wind, or as today, just finally giving way.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Booked the campsite at 7:01 so messed up on my timing (but still got a site next to my sister for 5 nights.) Had my first choice, but dumped it and changed when my sis got hers. Then we worked on it...sites came up again at about 20 after 7, secured a site for the other sister for the same 5 nights. Wasn't through with getting through the reservations until 7:40. But we did OK without the helby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

The valley roads used to switch between two way traffic and one way traffic, from winter to summer seasons. You had to watch the signs carefully in the shoulder seasons and we just usually kept in the habit of heading east on the southside drive and heading west on the northside drive. We were in Yosemite in late February and spoke with several DNC employees that we have become acquainted with through our frequent visits. They did keep their jobs, but just found out the day before we arrived. edit...I know that everyone had to undergo drug testing. Day hiked Whitney yesterday. Checked out the road work on July 4th (after picking up permit,) and parking was a breeze at the Portal. Same early yesterday morning. You have to have a parking pass to park before 6am or overnight. Roadside signs were up yesterday. Were not there the 4th. They say, if you read them, starting July 11 til some date in September for the no parking, but no oneby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just got back from Tuolumne July 2nd, somewhat avoiding the 4th of July stupidity. Had a good campsite but had one touron across from us. Very quiet EXCEPT he thought it was OK to avoid generator rules and crank up his motorhome engine at 5:45 am several mornings, to charge up his rig. Otherwise didn't hear a generator for 5 days. edit...did have folks come in at staggered times rigby hikerchick395 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
