I think at Eleanor you need some sort of trail boat or canoe to catch anything. Vernon is excellent for fishing. Can't speak for Kibbie, but Boundary, Flora, Spotten Fawn, Little Bear and lakes between don't have any fish in them at all. Yosemite has been removing fish at some lakes above 4000' to help the Yellow-Legged Frog recovery: http://kellyfinan.com/kelly%20images/troutfront.pdf Hby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. While I feel sorrow for the families of the men that died due to their own actions, the culpability lies with them alone. The wilderness is inherently dangerous and its the individual hiker's own responsibility to be safe. Every time I go backpacking, I know I am responsible for my own actions. These men tragically died trying to do something they shouldn't.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I wondered where that fire was. I was up on the ridge above Kibbie Lake/Creek this weekend and we definitely saw the smoke. We noticed it around early afternoon on Saturday and today as well.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotechick-on I'm wondering why I bothered answering anything about Florence and Clark. That's what I'm wondering... Because you are sucker for backcountry questions! Great pics there chick-on. I too echo the sentiment about the snow. I was out by Kibbie two weeks ago, and it was hard and crunchy the whole way. Very easy to move on, yet still soft enough to track the two mountain lions I saw. Of course, as we came out on a Thursday there was a group of 10 kids (under 13 years old) and 3 adults, and I remembered why I never go to Kibbie. Quotechick-on You would have had company this past weekend: I nearly puked when I saw this sight. In high water you won't make it up the creek on the east side. Way too steep. One of my crazy ideas is to trail boat the lake when the gate is closed... Yeah, Cherry Lake is definitely popular, and it gets worse as the season continues.
