I am thinking of doing Mt Florence this weekend and wondering if anyone knows the current conditions, especially for snow, around the north couloir for an approach from lake 10541 to the saddle. We will be a small team of 3-4 and might have to bail out if it requires crampons etc. Fall back option will be to do Fletcher peak and Vogelsang peak. Current plan is: Start from TH around 8:30am. QuoteNgomaam I figured it wouldn't be THAT cold yet, but then I saw this weather report: Looks balmy to me and perfect hiking weather in 50s. Should be a non-issue while you are moving unless it's windy/snowing. I would also check the hourly forecast (scroll down the page to bottom right corner). For night time sleeping, you can always use 1 or 2 hot water (nalgene) bottle system in additiby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotechick-on Sigh. I wasn't any better a long time ago. Maybe I got smarter. Maybe everyone else doesn't see what I see. Maybe they don't want to. Maybe they don't care. .... Amen! The first time I heard that campfire is like a scar on the face of the earth, it seemed a bit harsh to me. I took these two videos on Saturday as I had seen your post before heading out. Didn't recollect that you were looking for side trail options and you can see the right-side side trail in one of the videos. The left-side side trail is relatively easier and spine is not too bad either. Clouds Rest Yosemite - airy partby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteplawrence It's also pretty bad the general tone of the article that equates Yosemite as some sort of amusement park out in the wilderness, a Disneyland in the Sierra and that crossing the footbridges is the newest "thrill ride" in the park. Nathan/Brendan - This sounds like a fun trip and probably not many hikers there in current conditions. I would expect the trail to be snow covered from GP to at least Stanford Point and snowshoes are highly recommended. I was there on the Easter weekend and our initial plan was to go from Tunnel to Taft point. Quotemarkskor From Yosemite's web site: "Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches." https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/lnt.htm Thanks for the info. Really sad to see a life lost like this, especially a 21 year old. My condolences are with her family and friends. Quoteags Is this incorrect? (I suppose another way of asking this is: is there a specific item marketed as a "Prusik", and does it offer any superior benefits to the generic items I've described?) You might want to check for Via Ferrata set to use it along with a harness. Lightening Ascent has heel crampons unlike Revo and I know some of my mountaineering friends in WA use Lightening Ascent. Lighter wieght, especially on feet, is a great plus. The only caveat is that I believe it's sturdy aluminum instead of steel, so if you do a lot of mixed snow and rock/gravel could dull the points. I think it's easier to sharpen the steel points compared to aluminum (others onby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
