+1 for the Indian arch! It's a 200' and 200' elevation side trip before you drop down to north dome and I like it more than the north dome per se. Have fun!by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quoteplawrence Captured this photo of a bobcat up close, jumping off a log close to the patio window of my first floor lodge room at the Yosemite Lodge (Hemlock building) when I stayed there this past February. (It had walked past my window first and perched itself on the log, before turning around and heading back from where it came from: Great Shot! FB update by NPS/Yose Park road crews have been plowing the Tioga Road since April 18. Crews have plowed one lane to Tenaya Lake, however, there is still no estimated opening date. Crews still need to plow the full width of the road, as well as side roads. Safety considerations (e.g., avalanche zones, icy road conditions), additional road work, hazard tree removal, continuing snowy weather, anby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotehikerchick395 Well today is the day that Tioga Road plowing usually starts. It is also the day that income taxes are usually due. Turns out both are delayed until Monday... Quotebasilbop You need a pan that spreads out the heat--like a reasonably thick aluminum pan. Most backpacking stoves have very focused flames. They also sell diffusers (corrugated metal plates) that help a lot by spreading out the heat from the stove (pro tip from OD!). Thanks BB/ChickOn/Kevin. I guess I will just stick to oatmeal or cous cous as I only carry a Soto micro regulator stove aby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Happy B'Day D!!! Hope you ad a blast! May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds. - Edward Abbey Thanks to MC, JKW, and BB for the context and camaraderie. Quoteeeek Park Staff have completed the April 1 snow surveys. The water content of the snowpack in the Tuolumne drainage is 89% of average; in the Merced drainage it is 91% of average. The April 1 survey is considered the benchmark for the year; the water content of the snowpack typically peaks near this date. Thanks for the info, that's great news. QuotepakoR We were the first group to arrive at Dewey Point for camping. By late afternoon, there were about 50 people camped along the rim. I had thought the weather forecast would have kept many people at home. Nonetheless, it was a fun trip. Enjoy! Thanks for the post and the pics, this is awesome! QuoteVengeanceASX Well, I think I'm ready. My pack is good to go weighing in under 40lbs with bear canister, snowshoes, crampons, ice axe and shovel. The weather is going to be beautiful! High 40's low 20's, little wind until Sunday night. Should have some good harder stuff to walk on in the mornings. I will be giving a full trail report when I get back.
