Hey gang, I'm heading down 395 from Tahoe, for a wedding in Ventura next month, and Lone Pine is an approximate midpoint. Wondering if any of you guys know of any nice quiet spots to camp off of 395 anywhere near approximately Lone Pine area? Probably just for a night or two, it's just me, the dog, and my high-clearance 4WD. QuoteJustKeepWalking ... I'd find a ford of that creek or butt-scootch across that log I think it's time to include butt-scootch as a verb in the dictionary; there is no other term that better describes this action, which I'm sure so many of us have done. Although it is puzzling - sometimes my dog butt-scootches across my living room floor. No fast-flowing rapids or sketchy log crossingsby jishaq - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Now now, let's not start with name calling. I still assert he makes a strong point: It's a scarce resource and we're a capitalist economy, and someone always loses in that equation. Regarding buying a scalped campsite ticket: "And it was easy, and not ungodly expensive, and I didn't have to plan my vacation six months in advance" I have to say, that's a very compelling argument. QuoteAlmostThere But I also love to go above 11,000 feet. So I have a tarptent. Huh. I gave up with tarptents after realizing most of my camping was done on solid rock. Great, thanks for the info, those threads are perfect fodder for my topo-gazing and research! That route looks both awesome and very do-able. The x/c looks pretty mellow, and having a big fat extra day can really help with the farting-around taking-our-time aspect, which is nice. QuoteoakroscoeHow'd that Big Agnes tent do in the snow? It's a copper spur 2. It did fine in the snow, but it wasn't mega windy. Nice pic. Regarding your shelter ... is it a simple tarp, or a tarp-tent? I tried using a tarp tent in the sierras but was annoyed because 99% of the time I tried to stake the corners down, I would hit granite.
