Back in October I went to visit my girlfriend in San Francisco. I was supposed to meet up with Joel (qumqats) to do some hikes in Yosemite but ended up getting poison oak a few days BEFORE the planned visit. Needless to say, I was extremely upset as I am from Cincinnati and don't get the opportunity to hike in Yosemite too often. I didn't meet up with Joel because I would no longer be ableby dqniel - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials

Why? p.s. Sorry for the late entry to the discussion.by dqniel - General Discussion
No, you're correct... it is difficult. It can be done manually with various mechanical contraptions (cheaper, sometimes) or it can be done with computerized systems. With even the simplest of mechanical trackers (such as a "barn door tracker" the rotation of the earth can be accounted for well enough to do reasonably long exposure times (a few minutes or more) at lesser focal lengths.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. If somebody starts to pass me on a road like that, with the dotted line, I slow down because it makes me a nervous wreck when they don't give themselves enough space to pass me before oncoming traffic approaches.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I feel as though a lot of shots I've seen on this forum from tanngrisnir and others could have beaten just about all the honorable mentions and maybe the placed photos. More than one of those shots had a very distinct "point and shoot snapshot" look them where there was little in the way of dramatic lighting or depth of field. I'll have to try next year.by dqniel - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials
The Ohio River doesn't have shores so much as it has broken glass and driftwood with plastic stuck in it But seriously, there are a few well-kept parks along the Ohio River in/near Cincinnati. None of them are somewhere you'd want to go swimming or anything like that, though. Mostly they consist of paved paths on which to walk your dogs. The better parks in/near Cincinnati are in the hillsby dqniel - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials

Cincinnati has hills but no mountains. It makes me sad when I don't have environmental diversity. Cincinnati has two things- deciduous forest and cornfields.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I very, very rarely sharpen. I'll take a teeny bit blurry over the result sharpening frequently gives me. I pretty much only sharpen when I resize for web, in which case I do like 40-50 @ 0.3 pixels. I should just take a digital photo editing class at school or something. I've got to be doing something wrong at some point. Or just missing a step. Beautiful as always. I actually like the darkness on the left side of your first photo. It makes the gentle gradients of the fog, clouds, sky, and cliff walls stand out even more. I think it helps the mood of the photograph. What is your workflow for processing your LX5 images? I have an LX3 and really enjoy the final look your images end up with. They seem very neutral, but still have deby dqniel - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials
If I wanted to hike alone and somebody had joined me uninvited I'd politely let them know I was out for the solo experience. Some people don't pick up on subtleties, and it's not rude to let them honestly know your intents as long as you do it kindly. I wouldn't want to unintentionally bother somebody on the trail if I was hiking near them, they wanted to be alone, and yet they never let me knoby dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'll be in Yosemite Oct 22nd and 23rd with my girlfriend. We'll be doing some shorter hikes- nothing too long because we're both amateurs. If any of you forum regulars planned on visiting the park during that time, I think it would be cool to meet up with you if your agenda is similar. I'd like to learn from the best I also know a lot of people prefer to hike in solitary, so no offense takenby dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
"After the fact I realized it's the wilderness and they're not supposed to do anything, but I did go in expecting a little more of a warning," said Castillo Seriously? More of a warning? There are signs everywhere warning about paying attention to the weather. Between that and common sense, you'd think that would be warning enough.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Thanks for the tip. My guess is that I'll be driving the majority of the way and I've got a light foot. I can usually get 40MPG+ with her car, and that sure will help with the cost of gas around Yosemite.by dqniel - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
