I guess that's another error. The reason I included it was because of the reference on this page: http://usparks.about.com/cs/movielocations1/l/blmoviesej.htm#G However the listing on that page is full of errors. They list "The Great Outdoors" as being released in 1989, when it was released in 1988, and they list Chevy Chase as being in it, when he wasn't, and they list it as haviby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
I don't like Las Vegas at all. During the "Rat Pack" era it had some style to it, and I remember stopping there with my family to eat lunch on our way to Colorado in 1968 and 1972, and it still had that classic Las Vegas look, very spread-out, spacious, with dazzling neon signs, big flat lawns, much simpler than now, but it was nice. In the last 30 years they have built so many huge buiby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
That Children's Pool has become kind of a local attraction because of the seals. We go to La Jolla frequently and there is always a line of people along the wall looking down at them. People who want to swim generally go to La Jolla Cove just a short distance to the north, and much prettier in my opinion. Children's pool: La Jolla Cove:by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks... that is amazing and inspiring that he's still doing all of that in his 80s. Makes him sort of the "Jack LaLanne of Yosemite."by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Another web site I read claims that this is the spot where the fire was built and the embers were pushed from. Is this still there or is this picture out of date? Also, here is a Youtube video with Ranger Ewert's speech on the firefall: Glacier Point with Ranger Ewertby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks... is he still living?by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks for your reply. In the Huell Howser episode, the park ranger points to the spot where the fire was built, in a flat place between two rocks. But the cameraman didn't get a shot of it, I guess because other visitors were in the way at that moment. Is that spot still there? Or was it covered up or otherwise obscured during the most recent renovation of Glacier Point?by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Oh... all this time I thought it was red fir bark.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Is there now any kind of sign at the spot where they built the fire, with information about the firefall? It seems like a lot of people are still interested in knowing about it.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks for doing that. I've seen this once a long time ago, but it's great to watch it again before we go there next week.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks very much for all that information and the photos. That infrared photo is beautiful. It makes it look as if everything is covered with snow and ice.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
I wonder why so many people think national parks are playgrounds. Why do they think crossing the Merced on a log is a better experience than crossing it on a bridge? They should probably change the name of the park to Yosemite National Playground: tennis courts, three swimming pools, a golf course, a skating rink, a ski resort, a massive dining room with an idiotic bacchanal every year and who knby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Here's a page with videos of Yosemite, and the 4th one down the page shows a thunderstorm at Tuolumne Meadows, although I didn't notice any lightning or hear any distinct thunder. http://www.yosemitestock.com/category/yosemite-videos/yosemite-videos-2009by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks... we won't be going up Half Dome anyway because my Mom is 90 and in a wheelchair. But I was planning to watch the sunset from Glacier Point on Wednesday, is Glacier Point dangerous if a thunderstorm is in the area? And you're always safe just sitting in your car waiting out the storm, right? Actually I'm kind of looking forward to the drama and beauty of a good storm or two.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Intellicast.com forecasts "isolated thunderstorms" for both of the days we are scheduled to be in the park. Intellicast does not provide a definition of what they mean by "isolated." What can we expect if that is the forecast for the day? Do thunderstorms mainly happen in the late afternoon, which is typical of deserts and other mountain ranges? Or can we expect a thunderstormby Bob Weaver - General Discussion

Make sure to pronounce "Gold" as 2 syllables: "CAL-uh-FOR-nias GO-old."by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Wow, I didn't know he did a whole week on Yosemite. I'll have to watch all of them. I did watch the one on the firefall and it was great. I like his shows and his enthusiasm for even the most arcane and trivial abandoned artifacts... who else can make an old rusty bullet, laying on the ground in a forgotten corner of a remote desert that nobody goes to any more, seem exciting and interesting allby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Maybe a sign should be posted on the summit of Half Dome. "This is the Visor. This is not the Diving Board. If you want the Diving Board, jump down to that rock down there."by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
So the Final Frontier was El Capitan...by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
You're right... that's a mistake. I have removed that one. imDB lists the filming locations for the 1992 "Mohicans" and all of the locations listed are in North Carolina.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
This is the only true "Diving Board," right? I have seen so many photos taken at the summit of Half Dome with captions like "(name) on the Diving Board at the top of Half Dome." I have always thought those were incorrect. The only "Diving Board" is the one shown in your photos and the one Ansel Adams took his famous shot from, correct? There is nothing correctly refeby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Filmed partly or entirely in Yosemite. Including documentaries but not including cartoons. In some cases, "The Caine Mutiny" for example, there is only one scene in Yosemite. How is there competition as long as one corporation controls access to the park? You would have to set up two entrance gates, side-by-side, and allow visitors to choose which gate to go in - and the two gates would have to be run by two unrelated corporations, thus they would have to compete on price. How is that possible though? What do you think would happen if Delaware North was given controlby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Are you certain you want to privatize public park lands, and start paying some private corporation $69 per person to get in, where you used to pay $6 per car to park? When public resources are privatized, the cost of using them invariably skyrockets.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Sorry. My bad. And by the way I do not love the Ahwahnee; if I were in charge all buildings and roads would be removed from Yosemite Valley and the original landscap restored, all transportation in the valley would be by underground subway, and all lodging and camping would be completely outside the park.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
This topic has probably come up here before, but is the photo on this page for real? http://www.flickr.com/photos/trimmoos/3294080995/ The photographer claims to have photographed Half Dome, the Diving Board, Cloud's Rest, part of El Capitan and Sentinel Dome from Turlock, California, 67 miles away from Half Dome. Yikes! Has anyone ever gone over Yosemite Falls? I read about some poor woman who took a dip in the Emerald Pool and went over Vernal Falls (to her death of course). I've read "Over the Edge..." but not "Off the Wall..." yet.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
