Thanks... looks like a lot of trouble to get to though.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
I did a while back try to figure out the "Table Lake" thing but gave up. I guess it's just a Yosemite myth or else just a running in-joke on this forum.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion

Thanks for the comparison. It looks like 2009 has somewhat of a smaller flow than 2008. We were there on May 22, 2008, and this is what the falls looked like that day (although it was quite windy that day and that made the spray blow around a lot).by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Great photos, thanks for posting. It should still be like that for a couple more weeks at the very least, right? We will be there June 3 and 4.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
I'm surprised the Yosemite Association has 3 webcams pointed at Half Dome, and none at Yosemite Falls. You'd think one or two of Half Dome would be enough. Maybe the one that's broken (on Sentinel Dome) can be repositioned to show Yosemite Falls if/when it is repaired.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Great shot of Ribbon Fall!by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
They still have those same coin-op showers at Lodgepole in Sequoia? I used those on a trip in Oct. 1993 and you had to keep putting in quarter after quarter to keep it going. But on a morning when it was 30 degrees the hot shower was almost an erotic experience.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Ok thanks... it's just a curiosity how they arrived at 4.759 feet... maybe their weather station is situated on a rock somewhere above the valley rather than the valley floor. I guess an elevation difference of 759 feet will only make a difference of a degree or two in temperature, but the microclimate of exactly where the station is located could make a difference (sunnier or shadier or windierby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
They show the elevation of Yosemite Valley as 4,759 feet above sea level, yet I've always read that the valley is at 4,000 feet. Where is their weather station located if it is at 4,759 feet?by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
We were there Thursday, May 21, 2008, and in the morning it was very sparse, but by the afternoon it was somewhat crowded. Not objectionably crowded, but the shuttle buses were full. It was 63 degrees at the valley floor. I found out that a day or two later, it snowed lightly. I hesitated to make plans to go there in June, but I wanted to shoot for slightly warmer weather but still avoid the bigby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Weekdays are less crowded, right? We will be there Wed June 3 and Thurs June 4th.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
That is truly an awesome photograph. It looks like a painting, like an idealized version of reality.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
What was your favorite single experience at Yosemite, or your best memory of being there?by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Well, there are plenty of other places to stay in West Yellowstone besides the Holiday Inn. That's basically all that town is, is a place to stay. Literally right across the street from the park. Too bad the food in W.Y. isn't better though.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Are there no guardrails on Tioga Road? We will be driving it west to east on June 4. Most pictures I have seen show no guardrails except for the bridges.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Personally, I enjoyed the Black Sand Basin, located just to the west, far more than I enjoyed the Old Faithful area itself.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
This was voted "Canada's Best Hike" in a poll taken in 1981. It requires traversing a narrow ledge, then crawling through a 50-foot natural tunnel (which has been enlarged by humans) and then negotiating a short section of cliff with the help of cables. So that part of it is not for the faint-of-heart. But it leads to a Shangri-La which sits right on the U.S.-Canada border. The lake itsby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Yep, they are viewing benches, and they were totally full the day I was there, with people standing behind them too. September 26, 2008. I sat on the edge of that wooden platform, on that very corner that you see in the picture. And as an aside, Old Faithful was much smaller and less impressive than I expected it to be. I found other geysers there to be far more entertaining, for example Clepsydrby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
I'm sure DNC would charge it if they could. If they can charge $250/night for "Yosemite Lodge At The Falls" which gives you the impression that you can walk out on your balcony and you're right in front of the falls, then they can get away with anything. $500/night at the Ahwanee already.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion

I'm sure Delaware North would go for it.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
There were plenty of signs saying "stay 25 yards away from all wildlife" in the area. I can't remember the exact wording of the signs. And the "Yellowstone Today" newspaper they give you had a photo on the front page of a man running from a rampaging bull elk. But many people were disregarding that rule. Not everyone but a few. They weren't staying long next to the elk, just lby Bob Weaver - General Discussion
At Yellowstone I saw people standing less than 2 feet from the elk lounging on the grass at Mammoth Hot Springs, for photo opportunities. Literally right next to their faces. The elk were blasé about it, but still I don't think these people understood the risk.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
Thanks Cliff - I love your photos, both the old ones from past decades and the current ones.by Bob Weaver - General Discussion
