Yeah...after all of the up, and then the 2500 feet of descent from the top of San Jacinto down to the top of the tram...and then that up you mention...it was a killer. Plus we were hustling to catch a tram before it left, otherwise we would be waiting another half an hour.by Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I had been planning to hike Mt. San Jacinto, the high point of Riverside County, for some time, and the stars aligned recently and I was to meet my buddy Mike in Palm Springs for a Halloween Day hike of the Cactus to Clouds route. Mike had introduced me to the Cactus to Clouds route (C2C) as a challenge, and of course I had to do some research on it. Challenge indeed…a hike that starts basicby Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quoteags For the next few weeks, presuming there is not much snow and GP Road is open, is the common practice to park a vehicle legally overnight (where would that be, if formerly-Badger-Pass is not allowed) and thumb a ride to Mono Meadow/Bridalveil Campground TH and go in that way? Quotechick-on Payday Hill (or lack thereof) Poof, what did you do? Lend your packs to the noobs? Did you use your new "JKW Approved" pack? Yep, I opened up my garage (aka Rental Equipment Inc, or REI for short) to the noobs. Had to help them out. New pack went to a buddy, I used my larger pack used on JMT a few years ago. Funny how trips sometimes don't end up as expected. Last trip with Chickon I was told 12 miles per day..... Hilarious how a night in the LYV campground prepares one for a visit to SF and a Giants game! Pictures...yeah, I find the picture thing is a pain in the backside....wish it was easier! But pretty much any trip to Yosemite is a good trip!by Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hey Mainer First...not familiar with Eagle Pass...did you mean Eagle Peak? I would continue to check in with the forum group about conditions as you get closer to your trip. As mentioned above, if you can get through highway 120 you can park just outside the park...I have done so...literally a few feet outside the park, and winter hiked from there into the park. But the road has to be open, whiby Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Justin I would recommend starting at the Old Big Oak Flat Trailhead and doing the entire North Rim from west to east. You can park at the trailhead, and in addition to going to North Dome and the top of Yosemite Falls you can get to the top of El Capitan and Eagle Peak as well! Its probably around 30 miles total including all of the side trips. If you start at the Big Oak Flat Road TH you haveby Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I was up in the backcountry last weekend with 3 friends on a trip that had been in the making for a while. After years of hearing me rave about my trips to Yosemite, a couple of first time backpackers were convinced that they should give it a try, and we picked last weekend to do the trip. While two of the party were new to backpacking, I knew that they were in shape, and also adventurous, so I dby Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Great videos and brings back great memories. We did a family trip in about 1985, hiking to Young Lakes and then up Conness. My little sister got to what I recall as a particularly exposed portion near the summit and had to take a rather "airy" step or two. It had been several months since I had thrown the backpack on, so I was overdue to get back to Yosemite. I had been on a trip with with Chickon, KW and Basilbop back in February when we did LYV and Cloud’s Rest, and I subsequently did the North (west) Rim Trail in April with some friends. First, kudos to Basilbop and M...they worked all week, drove up from the Bay Area Friday afternoon/evening/night, hiked in until after midnight, and got up early Saturday to deliver potato chips and other sundries to the three of us who had been out for 5 days. Then more hiking, boating and cooking, followed by a 17 mile hike out on Sunday and a drive home, where they arrived probably around midnby Bearproof - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
