Basic Report: Lots Of Snow. Showers Lake Pictures Here On the way in I followed the ridge towards Little Round Top, dropping into Showers Lake just before the cornices at +9325 on the topo map. Much of the ridgeline was free of snow except for the corniced areas. I had section on the descent where the snow felt like slab-over-hollow-space, thankfully it was short, everything else was fineby ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quoterightstar76 It's back: http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,38063,38502#msg-38502 That one has a May 31 posting date - I was going to reply to the post that y_p_w took back (then took back the taking back) a couple days ago when I noticed the date. I wish that CL post would go away already. Still, I think the posting of this ad so far afield certainly argues for a not-innocent iby ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotedqniel I used my Steripen in the Merced and I didn't die. I assume that's probably one of the dirtier streams in Yosemite? I bought a SteriPen (Opti Adventurer, or somesuch) early last year and have used it since. It has worked fine on snow melt, both stove-melted water and melt dripping off the side of a rock. It's worked fine on clear mountain streams, in CA, in Yellowstone, and in tby ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteslosh2400 So, now I'm looking for a backup. I'm scheduled to hike The Lost Coast Trail next week, BUT I'm one to always choose mountains and gushing waterfalls over the ocean. So, I'm leaning on some expert advice from you guys. I work in the media so I know the issues with the Tioga Road still being closed. What I don't know is what other trails are open with limited to no snow, for a pby ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
If he faithfully reproduced the original product, then someone following his directions, and leaving the result in their closet for 15 years, will find a rancid rock-hard substance which nonetheless shows no outward signs of rot (proof I watched the video!). Do the reasons for flagging show up? In other words, the first scalper ad I decided to flag, I spent about two seconds deciding that "prohibited" was the right reason. Did I waste those two seconds of my life?by ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I've swam in Lake Superior, north and south shores...I only had a big problem at Neyes Provincial Park, where the water temperature gave me an instant headache. I think the bigger issue would be the velocity of the water...waist deep fast moving water is very dangerous because it's fast moving. I find this "all day" meme amusing...wonder if one of you scalpers decided to spread it amongst the rest. The people doing the Real Work post links. When I see New Posts I right-click-open-in-new-tab all of them (takes about a minute), then read them and (usually) click the 'flag' link, close the tab (a few seconds per post) and move on. I know, I was joking...sometimes that really is the best answer to the question. And even that doesn't ensure one won't be on the pass in conditions where it should be closed. They seem to be _pre-emptively_ closing the pass, judging by what I've seen here. Quotejustahiker Did I get permits I don't need in order to trade for some I can use? Yep, sure did. Then you are part of the problem for everyone else, you are preventing people who don't hang out on Craigslist from hiking with the permits you admittedly snagged with no intent to use. Sonora Pass _is_ closed with even small amounts of snow. I've driven it with snow covering it and can understand the reason...it's a real white-knuckle drive, with steep downslopes leading to curves, with cliffs waiting for anyone who breaks traction. Even more fun when those same downslopes have traffic jams caused by people in the opposite direction who can't make it up the grade. EDIT: I prby ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Looks like Ebbetts and Monitor reopened, Sonora's still closed, according to the CalTrans site. It was nice of CalTrans to open Sonora Pass just so I could get to Mammoth to go skiing, before quickly closing it again.
