That's an interesting perspective, I've been noticing the way all that wood seems to move around. Several months ago a lot of it was near the dam and along the western end of the north shore. Does SF ever clear it out or do they just let it migrate around until it forms a giant log raft (as it seems to be doing in that picture)?by ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I saw someone feeding a bear 6/25-26, because they couldn't reach Glen Aulin HSC's bear boxes due to conditions. http://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?3,39715,39715#msg-39715 Count this as a fourth 'take the bear can anyway' vote.by ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotechick-on I put another picture in that set of the pass from east of Echo Creek looking north to Nelson Pass. I thought maybe you were thinking this side... still wouldn't bother. Thanks. I'll probably pack both my ice axe and some poles (I don't hike w/ poles, they'll be an old pair of ski poles...) and see what seems reasonable to me when I get up to TM. I was thinking of the other side of the pass actually, its closed-in enough that I was thinking it wouldn't melt out the way basilbop mentioned the area south of Vogelsang had.by ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. There was dry ground available in Glen Aulin proper (after the HSC) when I was there on 6/25. It's a cross-country route, running from Pothole Dome to the Tuolumne River. The actual postpile (a very small area of columnar basalt) is on the south bank of the river west of where the main trail crosses at the twin bridges. I took it, in part wanting to avoid the Delaney Creek crossing. It looked like several other people were taking the main trail, and had therefore successfully crossed aby ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteeeek I'll have to remember that trick. Nice pictures! Especially LeConte. There were four tents clustered around the south landing of the lower Tuolumne River bridge, on the ridge above Glen Aulin it was just myself and that other party. There was also a tent on the ridge south of the river, west of the stream from McGee Lake. Plus people in the Glen itself.by ttilley - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yes. The bridge is fine, the HSC-end landing was under thigh-deep moving water in the afternoon, two feet deeper than that later on. Both landings of the bridge over the Tuolumne were under water as well, but not nearly so much. Probably knee-deep at the worst on the north side, w/ a log connecting the above-water portion to dry land. I didn't actually make it to the Backpackers Camp there, Conness Creek was passable (thigh-deep on the far end of the bridge), but the waterline on the trees was two feet above that, and by evening the water rose back to that point. So I camped on top of the ridge to the west. I hiked in by Little Devils Postpile, and got this view of Tuolumne Meadows...still flooded. Aside from bears, there were a lot of deer crossing the Tioga Road in front of me while I was driving to Tuolumne Meadows Saturday AM to pick up a wilderness permit. I've camped at the top of Lost Valley, I'd say about 20 years ago or so, on a flat patch on the slope above the river and trail.
