I think I sent you a pic of that right? And of course you had to make it to Inferno so I couldn't say I've been to a lake you haven't!by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
If you make it in before the gate closes, why not get the permit and hike to beehive like chickon suggested or even just make it to the legal 4 miles out at the top of the switchbacks and get an even better start on the next day to get to Vernon.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Ok, that actually makes sense. I forgot about the permit & that it didn't used to close at night. I think doing it at night would actually improve that trail to beehive. That's one of the reasons I love going out of kibbie/Eleanor is that the groveland ranger station will leave the permit in the mailbox after hours.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'm on AT&T with an iPhone 4s and I got no reception on Tioga today, although I didnt go past the 10 lakes trailhead. Oddly enough, I did get 2 bars on the edge network about 5 mile in on the Yosemite creek trailhead. That was enough to send a text (not a picture text though) and make a call. Also, I got 4 bars on the edge network on top of el cap and on top of Yosemite falls. I don'by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I do the same thing for the guy that went missing above lake Vernon on the way to Tiltill back in 05. If I remember correctly the park service actually called my buddy (the permit was in his name) and asked if we had seen him. Apparently he has put his pack down by the stream above Vernon and they never found him. http://yosemiteblog.com/2005/06/24/can-you-help-find-a-missing-hiker-in-yosby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotechick-on Do you shop at WalMart? Haha. I took a break on top of Morraine Ridge and saw one moving slowly up there. I was pretty surprised to see one at that elevation. If you're looking to see one, I usually always see one or two goin out of the hetchy trailhead. Also, every time I've been in that boggy section slightly east of Flintstone Camp in Cherry Canyon there's always beby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotechick-on There's a reason why you see mice and other rodent up high. Unless you find a Rattlesnake with fur on it... I'll give you 100 bucks if you see one above 10K. Heck, make it 9K. QuoteCalaveras I don't understand. If you can get up to 10450, you should be able to hike down the west side. We only had 15 lb daypacks but it wasn't that hard to get up there. 15 pounds? What all is in your daypack?by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks for the pics. I usually go North of Tioga, but that does look like some sweet crosscountry. I may have to check that area out. Just out of curiousity, how many of these scalper threads do we have to have? Can't you guys condense it into one thread? Quotechick-on If you don't go you can be assured that the weather will be gorgeous. The percentage is not high enough to warrant worrying about it. Just go. You're right, I was reading it too literally. I was thinking how the eff did he get to Edith? But remembering how the Park Service describes things, I'm sure he was "near" it. Quoteplawrence QuoteAlmostThere Mt Hagen beats 'em all. A jar that makes 60 cups (strong cups) of coffee can be had at Whole Foods-type stores for less than ten bucks. Thanks for the tip! That's funny, I can't stand the breakfast blend. It's too weak for me. I prefer the Colombian, tribute or holiday blend. But seriously, those VIAs are worth their weight in gold.
