I buy most of my freeze dried stuff from here: http://www.wildernessdining.com/ And with all freeze dried, a little extra flavor that you add makes it better. Not sauce and dried onions go a long ways... Also, you may have to eat a lot of trail mix to get the calories you need. At 8-12 miles a day you will probably be burning at least 4000 calories a day.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Normally when i see something you post I expect it to be spam and something that I won't give a shit about, but in this case, i was wrong. Thank you for posting this and the pics of Mrs. Rhoan. RIP Amy Rhoan... Seriously though, can anyone imagine what you would see if you lived to be a 102 years old? I too think that the issue is way overblown. I rarely used to filter water and have been fine. That being said, on chick-on's reccomendation I did pick up a steripen opti during REI's 20% off sale, so I would have it for the end of the summer when the water is dried up and you're stuck with the puddles in the stream bed.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I thought I did pretty well on Sunday last week. I left Concord at 4pm and was on the Eleanor Lake trailhead by 715pm. That being said, Fridays are rough although if he can be on the road by 1230pm he should be okay. I'm leaving after I get off work this morning at 5am to head up. I love it, midweek and early...all the traffic is going the opposite way.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yeah, it would appear everything is wide open. I am curious to see how the trails are off Tioga Rd, although I think next week I am going to try to get into Cherry Canyon. Also, thanks for the pics. So I finally got a trip in, and my apologies (especially to chick-on), there's no pictures as I left the damn camera at home charging. Anyways, I got off Sunday afternoon and went up to the Eleanor Lake trailhead. We didn't get too far on the first night as I didn't get to the trailhead until 715, so we stayed the first night at the Kibbie Creek crossing off that trailhead. I have the garmin 76csx and I've been happy with it. I've had it since May of 2006 and I haven't had any issues with it. Quotemrcondron The rattlesnakes in Yosemite are very mildly tempered. You would probably have to actually step on one before getting bit. I've put my foot down within a foot of one several times and all I got was some buzzing and a fleeing snake. Most often they will ignore you. I've seen quite a few rattlesnakes and they generally go the other way when you come. My buddy's dog even steppeby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
