Thank you for the great trip report. We have done many of the places you went to and reading about your trip makes me want to go again. I agree, the north rim of the Grand Canyon is fantastic. Just read your blog and can't wait for the next one. Years ago on the way to the North Rim, we stopped at Pipe Springs but it had closed 10 minutes before we got there. Quotechick-on Quoteparklover Heard the same thing about some areas in Yellowstone after the 1988 fire. He is being forced out, possibly over the bison program which is not popular with local ranchers. BTW Zinke was the US Representative for that district. QuoteThe Other Tom Quoteparklover There was a Tesla stopped in the long line of traffic and we wondered if it had run out of electricity before it made it to the valley. According to my understanding, electric cars don't use battery power just sitting in line. They only use it while moving. And most electric cars use regenerative braking where the electric motors work in reverse to slow the carby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Great Picture. We went down to the valley from Yosemite West on Memorial Day Saturday around 8:30 am and there still was a lot of parking and not that many people. At 12:15 we left Degnan's after getting sandwiches and it was so crowded that we decided to take our sandwiches and eat somewhere else but all picnic areas and pull off were full so we went back to Yosemite West. A friend just told me that Yosemite campgrounds are now booked through Aramark. https://www.travelyosemite.com/lodging/rv-campgrounds/ EDIT: I decided to look thought the next part of Aramark's website for camping and at further study, I found that after you click on another screen to book a specific campground it takes you to a screen for that campground on recreation.gov. Found a interesting NPS website where you can find old technical documents. Spent some time this morning looking at old plans for Yosemite right down to bear boxes and signs. There are 55 pages and have not looked at all of them and what documents are available but have found some very interesting info for those that are interested in Yosemite History and the changes that have been made over tby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quote0tl6ic Personally, I think that the material is overrated. My hunters tried it https://bestoutdooritems.com/best-bear-spray/ on bears with little luck. Only one bear from about half a dozen actually reacted as if it were affected by it. How many attacks this stopped, I'm surprised. It would be interesting to know. The chances that you will get it in your hand when you need it are also thinby parklover - General Discussion

Quotecrocodile235 The responsibilities under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act may have required them to choose a design that's in keeping with the Mid-Century architecture of the lodge. I'm not sure if the food court would be an exempted activity under the NPS Nationwide PA. Possibly, since it's an interior renovation, but maybe not since it's a significant building. Thanks for sharing your Yosemite story. You are so lucky that you started going to Yosemite so early in your life. I was 34 the first time I went, not due to lack of wanting to go but the fact that most of those 34 years I lived back east and my parents were not outdoorsy people and didn't think about trips to national parks. However, my son's first trip was when he was 3 months old and now hby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I had already bought my son's ski pass in August and doubt if he will even use it this year since he is away at college and usually skis there during his breaks and doesn't have one until mid March. Quotepines I think I may have asked this same question last time this situation arose: if Yosemite generates shed loads of money each and every year.....WHERE ON EARTH IS IT ALL GOING TO? Not all of the entrance fees charged in NPS units that have them goes to the park it is collected in. A percentage of the fee goes in a fund for parks that do not charge entrance fees. Quotebalzaccom Classic bait and switch. Make the park smaller, call it a National Park, and make most of the current land available to mining interests... I agree. Just trying to pull the wool over people's eyes while they exploit the rest of the area.by parklover - General Discussion
