This summer it has been horrible when we have been there. Don't even try to go to the valley unless we are there by 8:30 am or after 5 pm. We are not happy with the changes at all. Over the 30 plus years we have been going, there have been lots of changes and not all for the best. This goes on the not the best list. We did go to Degnan's to get sandwiches on July 11th. They are now serving 8 sandwiches and the one I usually get was on the menu. OK, that is the good news. While the buns were good, your only choice for bread now is a white or whole wheat bun not the huge choice you had before. My son used to get just ham on a roll without anything else for around $3. They wanted to charge us $11. Sandby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotetroutwild As much sense as the Bridalveil shuttle stop makes, I wouldn't be surprised if they eliminated it BECAUSE of the congestion. During peak times, I can't imagine trying to maneuver a bus or shuttle van there. Instead of driving through the parking lot, they could make the stop at the location on Southside Drive where they currently have pull offs on both sides of the road. May Lake 7/13. Road to trailhead parking lot still closed. There is a downed tree across the road about 1/4? mile in. We could have driven our SUV over the piles of snow on the road but near the end the melted area was too narrow to get a car through and would have to be plowed to widen it. You can easily walk across or go around the snow on the road. In a few places there is still some snow piby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the update on Degnan's. Last time we were there( early June) we had to wait a long time for a empty shuttle, the shuttle driver was having a meltdown and ran into the curb at the new parking lot stop. A shuttle manager that was trying to get people on the shuttles also was having a meltdown and was yelling at people for no reason. Arggg. Quotebalzaccom The water is very high. You have to pick around the edges to fish successfully. Look for eddy currents, small pockets near the edge of the stream, anything out of the main current that is deep enough to hold fish. Thank you. Sounds like it is not the best time to fish yet. Do you happen to know how much snow there is at T. Meadows?by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotetroutwild Yes, Degnan's in open. The gift shop is gone, now an eating area with high and low tables as is the other end of the building. The center section has been enlarged and modernized with separate sandwich and drink counters. I think they have an "on-site" bakery. I don't recall seeing the corner fireplace. Quite unrecognizable from the previous Degnan's. TY. Did you noticby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Wondering how the fly fishing is in Wawona and at Tuolumne Meadows now. Is the water flow still too high and too much snow? We have not been to Yosemite in over a month so we don't know how things are looking.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoteplawrence In wonder how the Yosemite Village traffic circle is holding up. For those have visited Yosemite recently, it it working as intended? Is there some confusion? Or are the backups from Curry Village just as bad as before? Quotepines book in advance for campsites: book in advance for wilderness permits: book in advance for hotels, but book in advance for car parking?? that would limit the numbers visiting the valley...and number of dollars that slosh around Yosemite. it'll never, ever happen. its as heretical as suggesting that Y's campsites should have hot water*&^%$. which is never, ever going to happen, afteby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteERICG For me, yes and no. The shuttle system at Zion, which services the main canyon during the busiest months, seems to be over-whelmed at times as there are way more people then buses to carry them into the park. Only visitors staying at the Zion Lodge are permitted to drive into the canyon. While in Yellowstone and Tetons make sure you carry bear spray all the time. Yellowstone has a great website you can get information from and I posted the sight because it has so much information you can see by clicking on links. Quotepines WOW! what a story for the conspiracy theorists. not much of an explanation is it... 'closed due to conditions'. is snow expected to stay all through summer? seems more like they can't be a***d to implement a contingency plan for when the snow does go. but what of all that profit they are throwing away? It was interesting watching drivers trying to figure out how to use the round about Memorial Day weekend and this weekend. People just don't understand the merging thing.
