I feel really bad for people who had reservations. However, my husband and I had a laugh when I read this. I had talked to a new manager at Badger Pass a few weeks ago and asked if there was any possibility that the ski area would be opened longer this year since there is so much snow and the restriction for the endangered bird no longer was a issue. He said that they already had plans to moveby parklover - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
The groomers got out at different times after the slopes close for the day and at night you can see their lights. Fun to watch them on the time lapse you can find here: www.halfdome.net/movies/badger_pass/by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuotePohono ERICG- So in other words-----STAY AWAY, right? Years ago I would park off road, in a turnout, between Four Mile & Swinging Bridge. With a five minute walk towards the river I would be in a great location for viewing Horsetail fall. AND, I was all alone. Sadly the internet, news media, and pro photographer groups have created a huge crowding problem for the Park Service. Not sure wby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I was concerned about Zinke as soon as I heard he was going to be Secretary of the Interior. I am concerned about who will replace him. I had the pleasure of meeting Jon Jarvis at the dedication of the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center in 2010 and he took time out to talk to us and have his picture taken with myself and my son and then Superintendent Lewis.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotechick-on It sure looked like peaky last Sunday. Sorry only drove thru El Cap xover though. Don't have picture even at Tunnel View. Was on way back to bay area. And previous week only going in to get a wilderness permit. Yowza the number of burn piles in the valley. Finally got to the new improved Mariposa Grove. What a wonderful job. Feels so so so idyllic. Great pictures and so true - it is different every time but it is always beautiful and wonderful. My son's first trip to Yosemite was when he was 3 months old and he is now 22. He loves winter the best because he loves to ski and he learned to ski at Badger Pass. Lost track of how many times he has been there and he has experienced Yosemite every month of the year and each visit has been specialby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Another example of idiots thinking it is OK to get near wildlife. From Anchorage Daily News https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/wildlife/2018/08/10/unprecedented-man-wades-into-katmai-bear-feeding-zone-takes-a-selfie/by parklover - General Discussion
I have tried multiple times to get to Katmai, the first being over 30 years ago, and each time something happened. I have been planning this trip for over 1 1/2 years. Not only did my son get sick, but one of the days we could get cell signal we got a panicked call from our dog sitter that one of our dogs became unexpectantly ill and that she was in an emergency hospital. She died 36 hours afteby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I totally can relate to people really wanting to see Yosemite and this might be their only chance and they can't go. We just returned from Alaska and the end of our trip was to be three nights at Brooks Lodge at Katmai NP. Twice in the past, trips had fallen through and now they are on a lottery system. In Jan 2017, I won the lottery and had spent since that time, planning our Alaska trip aroundby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I forgot to add something. I had to laugh at your picture of the bison at the north rim. When we went there, we had no idea that there were bison there. On our way out, I mentioned that the area reminds me of Wyoming and were we would always see bison. Low and behold, walking towards us was a huge male bison.
