Thanks for sharing all of the paintings. I think you have a great style, and I'm reminded of works by Katsushika Hokusai, Chiura Obata, and Eyvind Earle. I wondered who your influences are.by yosemitejim - General Discussion
Thanks for posting. Great to see conditions. I thought the black and white shot may be hiding dead trees, when I first saw it. Do you have a color shot from Tunnel View? I'm very curious what the view from Tunnel View looks like now.by yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Just got back from a couple nights at Pine Creek. Did a little warm up hike to Bull Lake at Bishop. My girlfriend had done a lot of day hikes, but this would be her first backpacking trip. I had wondered if 3000 foot elevation gain on the first day would be a bit much for a first trip. Pine Creek permit availability was good, and I had wanted to go to Granite Park for a while, so Pine creby yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quotechick-on And also point out that you shound NEVER need a campfire in the backcountry. . Unfortunately there are a lot of images and references to camp fires. People think that a fire is part of the experience. If people thought about it a little bit, they would realize a fire isn't necessary. Maybe Smokey Bear could ask if you really need that camp fire. I was looking for history of the High Sierra Trail. I had seen an interesting sign at Crescent Meadows. The sign said that a woman photographed Sequoia's high country to try to get Congress to protect it, before the HST was built. I came across this video looking for more information about that sign.by yosemitejim - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I've seen lots of bark beetle ravaged trees in Rocky Mountain National Park about 10 years ago. The San Bernardino Mountains have been dealing with bark beetles for about 10 years. I've also seen many dead trees in Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains and parts of Wyoming a couple years ago. Now becoming a familiar sight in the Sierra.by yosemitejim - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. There are a lot of dead trees moving up the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River east of Moro Rock. Fortunately didn't see many at the higher altitudes. Been watching the last few dry hot summers, and wondered what was keeping the trees alive. I was hoping the summer monsoon rains were helping, but I guess it was too late for a lot of trees. I scored a walk up permit for the High Sierra Trail at Sequoia about a week ago. Been wanting to get to Hamilton Lake for a long time. There was heavy hail and thunder the night before I started out. There was a couple inches of snow near Lodgepole the next morning. It started out sunny in the morning and got cloudy in the afternoon. It was sunny for the rest of the trip.
