QuoteJustKeepWalking your wet day was the 20th, right?[/quoteYes, that day (Sunday) was the big storm, though some gentler rain the previous day as well. Nice photos. Did you get that zoom in of the cables on your phone camera? Yosemite can be tough to get proper exposure in pics, the contrasts sometimes are too much for many cameras. You can try to play around with the contrast and brightness settings in any desktop photo editor (make a copy of the photos and edit the copies so you still have the originals as back-up).by JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

(warning: way too many pictures) Started day 7 by descending from May Lake to Tioga Rd. According to the timetable I had just missed the shuttle bus, so I continued on the trail to the Tenaya Lake parking, where I lucked out by getting a ride up to TM from a young couple from Finland. Went up to the backpackers campground, set up my tent, and then dayhiked to Elizabeth Lake. Beautiful area. Caby JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
(warning: way too many pictures) From Glen Aulin I headed to May Lake. Passed McGee Lake. After another couple of miles, views to the north and east begin opening up, especially the big peaks like Mt. Conness. I intended to camp at Raisin Lake but, um, well I totally missed it! I ended up camping high on the trail just before it drops down to May Lake. Spectacular views. Next morning proceeby JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
(warning: way too many pictures) My food shipment did arrive (3 days late) so retrieved that, packed the bear canister, and headed back to the park. Started at White Wolf trailhead around 3pm. Descended to Pate Valley. Great views of the Hetch Hetchy reservoir and the GCT opening up along the way. Met a nice bear on the switchbacks. (warning: way too many pictures) Hi all, this is a trip report for my 8-day YNP backpacking trip July 19-26. This originally was planned to be a 9-day, but a week before I had to shorten by a day, which caused an entire re-do of the itinerary, and then my food shipment didn't arrive on time causing another itinerary re-do on about 12 hours notice. But it all worked out and I had a great time.by JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

QuoteDavidSenesacBut there is a reason one will not see serious fine art images of Half Dome by landscape photographers taken from Mt. Watkins, Snow Creek, Basket Dome, or North Dome. That is because the aesthetic shape of Half Dome looks much better from further west providing a stronger profile of its sheer face. Quotesierranomad I don't recall ever seeing this view of Bridalveil, though I'm sure pictures must exit Like on the cover of Schaffer's book?by JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yes, the hint pretty much tells the story by itself. I don't know about "great story", just that I set my camera down for a minute and a glob landed on the built-in lens cover. I thought my camera was going to be glued shut for the rest of the trip but I got it cleaned up enough to work again. ;-)by JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Boy that tree looks familiar: (July 2013) Great spot. Just don't hang out directly under that tree in warmer weather, the pitch is dripping constantly (ask me how I know). Thanks for the pics.by JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I recall only 2-3 "campsites" at Bridalveil Creek, but those are nothing more than worn-down patches of level ground. There also are some campsites at Dewey Point. You can camp anywhere -- on the permit you don't have to be specific just show you have a general plan that makes sense. Why take the GP shuttle twice? I'm curious what people's experiences have been getting (or not getting) cellular service when in YNP. I'm not talking about in the backcountry but in The Valley and/or in TM. Last summer I had no service at all, even though my carrier says they have service everywhere cellular service is available (my "carrier" is one of the big re-sellers that uses the networks of the big providers).by JRinGeorgia - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hey Steve, I have not done the JMT so take my input with a full shaker of salt. But I have been looking into it same as you, so some thoughts: - I've been racking my brain to figure out how people do it in 14 days (or less -- I heard the record is just under 4 days). Yes, a calculator will tell you that 14 days to cover 220 miles is just under 16 miles a day, and on paper that is doable. But..by JRinGeorgia - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I did the Pohono E>W this summer, very nice hike. I stayed overnight but it's a doable day hike if you start early and plan your transportation properly. As I'm sure you know it has 6-8 amazing overlooks, with lots of beautiful forest in between. Once past Taft you will have the trail almost all to yourself. It's billed as mostly downhill in that direction, but Dewey is nearly the same elevatiby JRinGeorgia - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

^In line with that, on a visit to Grand Canyon a few years ago my daughter and I sat in on a ranger program in which they taught the kids about mountain lions and deer and such, and then they related a story that when development and tourism was really developing around that area, people saw that mountain lions were bringing down deer and thought that was bad.
