Update: The data file that I just uploaded covers about 1/3 of the trail. I'm still tweaking the last few switchbacks in that stretch, but otherwise I'm pretty well satisfied with what I have. I've mentioned a few times now, that I've been working on surveying and mapping the Four Mile Trail without a GPS. Now I've managed to generate a set of data points for part of the trail and get my "track" to open in Gmap4. Quotebasilbop Would an otter have done this? No. Otters are carnivores (they eat crayfish, fish, frogs, and shellfish). They don't have the right kind of teeth for gnawing down a tree, and wouldn't have much use for the tree anyway. Beavers are rodents and gnaw for a living. I noticed recently that Google Earth now includes "street views" from several popular trails around Yosemite Valley -- I noticed the Four Mile, the John Muir, and the Upper Yosemite Falls Trail but I think there are more. It looks like a lot of water, carrying rocks, came down across two adjacent sections of the Four Mile Trail sometime in February and seriously messed up the trail.
