Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion There was a major 5.9 earthquake today (at about 3:50 PM PDT) about five miles south of Coleville CA with the preliminary estimate of the epicenter being quite close to US 395.
That's a good size earthquake. Hope those living near the epicenter, including Bridgeport are okay. I wonder if Hwy 395 suffered any major damage during the quake or its aftershocks.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I'm surprised your goldfish have survived at all in your outdoor pond. In my neighborhood in the Bay Area, any fish left in an outdoor pond is usually eaten by our neighborhood raccoons within a week if not within a day.

General Discussion I'm glad that Yosemite got its trademarked names back so the Ahwahnee can officially be called again the Ahwahnee and Curry Village will once again be Curry Village.
But I think it would be sweet that instead of restoring the Badger Pass name to the historic ski area, that they rename that area in honor of the man that made Badger Pass such a special place, Nic Fiore.
I would love if they r

General Discussion You might want to see if there's a tent site available at the Indian Flat Campground at Incline on Hwy 140. It's only $20 a night during the offseason.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion The rail fence at Devil's Elbow was part of a restoration project that was started in 1993 and completed, IIRC, the next year. Here's more information on the Devil's Elbow restoration project and its success in rehabilitating that part of the Merced:

In my lifetime, I have yet to consume an entire pot of coffee, but on a
trip to CA in Sept., some friends took me to Dutch Bros., a place they
said would make you throw rocks at Starbucks. They bought me a
girly drink infused with chocolate, caramel, sprinkles, whipped cream, etc.
In order to appease their generosity, I drank the entire $6 concoction. (For

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion The change.org petition protesting this move is too funny. They're basically complaining that coffee being provided by multinational German firm, Joh. A. Benckiser (https://www.jabholco.com/), the parent company of Peet's Coffee, is being replaced by a multinational American firm (Starbucks).
Yes, I think the quality of Peet's Coffee is overall better than Starbucks coffee, but this isn't som

I have hiked both ways in 2017. The hike from Tamarack Flat Campground to Rainbow View is easier and safer, but the hike is much longer (12 miles 6 hours).
The hike from V7 to Rainbow View is now very dangerous. My hiking buddy Juan made it to Rainbow View, but I stopped at the last new slide. Keep in mind, I have hiked the Rockslides Trail many

Three national parks -- and contact links for their site don't seem to work, at least for my ipad anyway.
I think the writer of the article thinks our national forests are also national parks. I wouldn't be surprised if the author of the article is European and not familiar between the differences of a National Park, National Monument, National Forest or a designated Wilderness Ar
