I just cancelled the Upper Pines campsite 069 for 14th, 15th, and 20th, in case anyone wants to grab it. it's going to be cold this week...by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'll be cancelling my permits later today and hopefully someone else can use it. The backpacking permits are for May lake with entry date of Friday 10/7. Thanksby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
So sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. RIPby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
This is pretty straightforward as Coolburn mentioned. Every car would need to show the Reservation and your photo id. I have mostly used slightly redacted DL as the photo id. The 2 cars limit is applicable at the campground. In terms of arrival and departure etc, there are no restrictions if the other car has two items. The can come before or after your arrival or even after your departureby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
The full length of the road will be open to bicycles May 21–23 . I was hoping for it to open for cars by 20th https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/tioga.htmby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks, really appreciate your regular posts and reminders. I sent an email to Yosemite NP requesting to push out this closure to the end of the weekend and received a response stating - "keeping the road open until April 4 at 5 pm." Hoping that the website will be updated with this. I plan to do an overnight trip in the area on that weekend.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Current plan is that the road will be plowed till the Badger pass ski area. There's no plan to groom the GP road as of nowby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Anyone knows whether the road up to Badger Pass Ski Area will be plowed? I am hearing that that the ski area will be closed for this season and not sure whether the road up to that point will be plowed...by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hope you are not too affected by this one. It's becoming a wild summer/fire seasonby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks, that's a good point. Will check out the mexican joint for sureby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for sharing the info, will check it out in 2 weeks. I usually stop by at the Mexican place next to Raley's in oakdale and Nature's Country Corner in Manteca for fruits. Is the product stand on the Wagner Rd on the north or south of 120?by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
This woman’s tribe was evicted from Yosemite. Now it's her job to protect it from wildfire https://outline.com/a9uxGC Story via sfgateby nwhkr - General Discussion
This season is crazy. Was at M lake in Yosemite when the creek fire kicked in and it was raining ash. I really feel for the people and communities who are directly impacted by these fires....by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
As JKW mentioned, the code works for trips starting within 2 weeks. For my labor day trip, I tried the code that I got 16 days back and received an email to try with the correct code.by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Happy B'Day!!! Hope you had a blast...Sounds like an awesome trip. Thanks for sharing the pics and TR. Heard great things about Mokelumne from some PCT hikers and have yet to visit it. How do you get into volunteering at these places? I usually get a group going in the bay area and it would be great to do something further out once the things become a bit less restrictive.by nwhkr - General Discussion
I would also add that one of the best option to manage altitude sickness is to move downhill about 1000', assuming that it's safe. It all depends on the situation. Sometimes just a painkiller and rest can help but continuing uphill is more tricky. In the instance that iivvgg shared, those guys were probably better off going downhill with the backpack instead of going up, even without the backpaby nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Great points! I understand some people's frustration and there's no easy way out on this. This is a huge operation with limited budget as well as reduced resources this year and I believe, NPS is doing the best to keep things afloat. Additionally, the people in the neighboring communities are getting a decal or sticker for pass through.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Wow, this is insightful. Hope everyone in the park and in the neighboring communities is staying safe.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there Have you done this since the emplacement of coronavirus restrictions? Good point about the # of vehicle allowed for camping. Yes, did it for wilderness permits a couple of times this season. MtnMan's post clarifies it too.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
They will probably need a copy of the reservation and a copy of your id. For wilderness permits, I have shared my DL with my DL # and DoB etc masked.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
20% of day use passes are released 2 days prior. You must enter the park on the date mentioned on your pass and then your pass is valid for 7 days https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htmby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing and the pics look great. Will be at M lake in late summer, so this is helpful. Sounds like a great route with not many people on that loop.by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Well captured, Steve!! Thanks for sharing! Looks like a great trip and probably the timing was perfect. Where all did you guys catch the fish? There were some people fishing around California falls. I was at GA and WW last weekend and mosquitos were, surprisingly, not bad.by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Mosquitos at Glen Aulin last weekend weren't too bad, maybe because I was expecting it to be worse. The only time we felt their presence was around dusk, just before and after the sunset. Didn't see any at the tenaya lake either though it was a different story at Tenaya on June 19th. Have fun!by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Ah-maz-ing shot!! with the mountain perfectly poised in the backdrop. Nice blue and red combo too . Looking forward to some red, white, and blue for the July 4thby nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Technically if one is within 1 mile of HSC, one is supposed to camp in the backpackers camp at the HSCs. My guess is that this is to minimise the impact since these areas are heavily trafficked and heavily used. The camping area around Glen Aulin is well marked and around Sunrise lakes, it's easy to spot previous used/impacted spots.by nwhkr - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for the thorough overview. Quoterecycling1991 They have blocked off the road into the campground This is especially helpful as I will be there next weekend for a day at the TM backpackers cg. Didn't realize that there won't be an option to offload next to the cg.by nwhkr - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
