According to the Mammoth Lakes newspaper "The Sheet" dated April 14 2012 CalTrans has plowed 120 to the Tioga Pass gate and is heading to Glacier Point (meaning Olmsted Point???) Can't find any confirmation of this elsewhere, though. OK...now I see that this was mentioned in the Tuolumne Winter Update...by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was one of the first to vote...Sentinel Dome. B..U..T...now that I think about it...when my newlywed friend visited with her new hubby a couple of years ago, she was completely smitten with Bridalveil Falls...I think because of it's appropriate name. She was happy to get several pics of them with that falls. DavidK42...quite the romantic. Gifts too! My anniversary "gift" eaby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotehikerchick395 I think Subaru missed their market...they were the first SUV. I should've said first SUV in their class...maybe "compact" SUV type vehicle...and in the US market. Of course there were Jeeps, 4WD trucks, Toyota Landcruisers, etc...the Subaru with 4WD wasn't widely available in the US until 1976, although there were even tinier Subarus around before then.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. It is horrible here, closest to my home. Rock Creek is 21%. That is close to where I get my water from and, no doubt, our tiny community will be fighting LADWP over it.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I have never put on chains on a Subaru and have never been asked to...have owned one (or two) since 1978. (I did practice once in my driveway with the first Subaru, though.) I carry conventional chains but I don't believe it would even be wise to try to put them on our newer Subaru (clearance?) Our 1985 Subaru was the best, as far as traction and 4WD capability..it had 4WD Low. I think Subaruby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
We eat Curry pizza when we stay in the tent cabins. In February we had pineapple and Canadian bacon. It was OK. (It doesn't compare to our favorite Bishop Pizza Factory and Curry doesn't offer our favorite topping...anchovies.) Anyway, the best Curry pizza was when we brought it back to the campsite and used the wienie poker to roast it a bit over the campfire. Hey, I thought that looked familiar chick-on. (I looked at your Picasa pics of Robinson Pool.) I remember loving the clarity and color of it. Now I have to figure out when we were there...pics must be Kodachrome. A lot of the other photos had me with my Nat Geo map out, looking for the locations of the lakes. A lot of the little lakes on that map aren't named, though.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I found a WIDE photo of the area. Sep 2009 chick-on...I did not go to the tippy top of Tressider. I did have to drop my pack and got up close to both summits. I had to straddle a bit of a knife edge to be comfortable taking photos and video. I could've summited, but I questioned the "going down" part and since I was alone, I didn't.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Good detective work chick-on! I then had to figure out when I was on Tresidder Peak...OK found the year...got out the prints and looked through them. The easiest Half Dome hike that I've done was the night hike. You should plan to go a bit slower as not to get too sweaty so more time should allowed. By hiking slower, the exertion level was so much lower, and maybe the fact that it was so dark (without the visual keys,) it just seemed dang easy. I only got two shots with this color on the first day. (Feb 24) The previous ones were light yellow and the following ones were light pink. So, even if the sun manages to shine at the right time, it depends on the atmosphere that it is setting on what color appears. Last year, we had color for much longer on the dates that we were there.
