eeek...have you seen plans for any action for removal of trees that fell in Yosemite the same day? Obviously they have already been removed off of 120, before reopening the road in December. QITNL won't have to worry about dayhike permits then. Some of us still want to have the opportunity in the future to hike "sucky" Half Dome and Mount Whitney. I've enjoyed all of my visits to the tops of these mountain tops. No it is not a "wilderness" experience...I have never approached ascending either with that in mind. Ha...I never get to see my own video...different camera. Right now I am ten years behind recording tapes to DVD's. (Those are analog until 2008.) That's when I finally view my video...some acceptions, though...I'll playback some in the camera like the baby bears in Yosemite and whales in Alaska. It was so windy yesterday at Ellery Lake, I had to struggle to get the door of the truck open. (Took my video from inside!) Dirt was blowing at the south end of Tioga Lake. I almost ditched my plans to hike, but I got up to Lambie-Pie. Very windy right on top (had to brace myself taking photos) but otherwise OK...breezy with a few gusts. I am very familiar with rec.gov. They change things around a bit every year too, and I check out the site frequently. I was logged on this morning, as last month. When I hit "book theses sites" it went back and asked for log in again. I guess in today's particular situation, I lost time there before entering the rest of my information. But I was only a few minutes into my 15 miby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
add recreation.gov to my suck pile. Had my site, my reservation info completed and it was at the booking point, the the site crashed. I was not able to even get back into the site for about 15 minutes. Lost it. I noticed while the the little booking bars were busy that the pic for my site was not the right one for the site # and thought "that's strange..." Here's a pic from last February...went early in the month, so no new snow in the valley, but enough to melt from above to have the falls. Snow fell a couple of times the following week.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Me too. Especially on that Cathedral granite. I scrambled a few steps up Fairview...enough...being alone and all... Hopefully will get in another drive up there before the road closes. Purdy! That first one is so milky white. I took a few pics on the Dana Fork where it was close to the highway...milky tinted with turquoise. I was fascinated by it's downhill slope and lovely water noise bubbling and gurgling underneath. 1986 was a big year for a winter/spring storm though. There was avalanche damage on the approach to Donahue Pass...had to climb over many downed trees. Since then, the trail has been rerouted and also rebuilt on the other side of Donahue (lots of steps on either side.) And the bridge at Woods Creek was washed out that year, as was a lot of the local real estate in that area. (Did the JMT thatby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

June 2010...setting up a highline over the top of Yosemite Falls. There was a climber across the way, and two tightening the line from the viewpoint. Gaylor is EZ but it was howling icy cold wind, just on top, this day. My video is probably noisy. A lovely walk is the to peak, down to the middle Gaylor lake, up to upper, then the Great Sierra Mine, across to the upper Granite Lake, stroll down to lower Granite then cut back across to middle Gaylor and back over the ridge.
