Got up early to see the flooding Thursday morning...it was high but not higher than last year on the morning of June 7. (yeah, did the yellow tape mean that the bridge was closed??? ) No rafters but saw a few swimmers. We were under water on the bike trail (above my knees) so couldn't see where they got out at swinging bridge. One guy was wearing a water polo helmet. I have some too but I can't post here unless I have them on a photo hosting site??? We hiked from Upper Pines to 4 Mile Trail then Panorama on June 7th. Needless to say our party of nine was much delayed on our early morning start, snapping photos of the flooding. The swinging bridge was closed, but, of course, we had to cross it. Water wasn't going over the bridge. Hope to get some siby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The road is only open to the pack station and isn't even open around Rock Creek Lake yet. Beyond the pack station, the road is about 75% snow covered. But the restrooms at Mosquito Flat are open and one snow free campsite (backcountry permit holders only) available across the bridge. I will be happy if chick-on's forecast materializes. (It is forecasted to be in the 90*'s in Bishop next week and in Fresno also.) I was at Tioga Pass on Friday and up at Mosquito Flat yesterday. I was there last year...I was going to say that I thought it was the 7th not the 6th of June for the peak...arrived in the valley on the 5th, the day Tioga opened. Well here on the east side, we had a 6 week "january thaw." Some similar temps as here in Juneuary (70*'s.) This got the grasses growing early...maybe crowding out some of the flowers. Had very few blooms here and the poor flowers that did appear have been beaten by the wind. We visited Carrizo Plain in April and there were tons of flowers, but they were flattened by snow. Mammoth closed July 5 last year. Much more snow this year, but they will probably close on July 4 due to lack of interest not due to lack of snow. They officially received 1.5" more snow last night. Blah, blah, blah...can you tell that I'm from Inyo County. The Inyo Supervisors are a bunch of wimps when it comes to dealing with the LADWP. Where I live, we deal with the DWP every day...they turn the water down (raise gates that were installed on BLM land without a permit) of creek flow to our community and we go out and turn the water up...by hikerchick395 - General Discussion
I can't help singing "Werewolves of London" when I pass by. Unfortunately I have some of my "singing" on video tape. Quoteeeek I remember the days when Tioga Road looked like that when first opened. After the plow operator was killed they became a lot more conservative. It was like that in June of 1978...I worked in the valley and drove to the east side to be in line to be first to go over the pass. The snow absolutely dwarfed my little Subaru. The road at Olmsted was only one lane. Quite a surprise sincby hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Our local weather dude just said he doesn't see a change in the weather pattern for at least a week, maybe two. Look for another 6 " in the upper elevations Sun/Mon. Never ending WIND here on the east side.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

My husband and I did Glen Aulin/Waterwheel Falls in June of 2006. Spectacular! The next year, it was a lot drier, and my family camped in Tuolumne instead of the valley in June. Although we stay in the campground in an RV, we are amongst the folks who are clapping when a generator shuts down. We stay for a full week and don't need to run a generator.
