Quoteedg QuoteParis92 When I am carrying my larger backpack I typically also have with me an REI Flash 18 pack. That pack is great, lightweight, but too small for many longer day hikes I have this pack too, and it's the one I use for all my day hikes. I've often thought it was slightly too small, but I suppose that's a good thing as it forces me to move faster/carry less crap. It's also cheapby Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotehotrod4x5 Whoever wrote the title to that brief needs a lesson in clarity. As it is written it makes it sound like the NPS was somehow involved, or helped create, the outbreak. +1by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteW7SG QuoteParis92 Looking to get a day pack. Something along the lines of the Osprey Manta 28 hydration pack. Anyone have other suggestions for a similar type and size day pack? 28L is about as large as I want to go. I was thinking 25L would be ideal for my purposes. QuoteDave Just make sure the water bag has an opening big enough to fill the thing with ice cubes. Which ever pack fits comfortably and feels good on your back is the best one to get. The Osprey pack I am looking at has an interesting hydration bladder with a large opening and a handle and a firm flat side for ease of use (easy to get in and out of the pack sleeve.)by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotechick-on If it looks like a HSC, smells like a HSC, and tastes like a HSC... It's probably a HSC. Good think I not step in it. Although I'm pretty sure Bearpoof guy think the whole thing a mirage: These signs are from the 50s?by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yes, that is what I meant. It was in their private-label line (manufactured by others to their specifications.)by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Looks like REI has really decreased the number of models they carry in general, and manufacture under their own brand specifically. The anti-shock twist-lock REI poles I bought a few years ago are no longer carried. Too bad. They are good poles.by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Eight of us started hiking as a group a few years ago. Did lots of research on equipment etc... Some bought poles, some did not. We did the HSC loop for a week. On our last day hiking out we were reflecting on the prep and decisions we made. We all voted and unanimously choose our hiking poles as the piece of equipment that we would never want to hike without. Invaluable both going up and down. Dog Lake parking is also an option. Between TM HSC and Lembert Dome (closer to TM HSC). I think some of the bear boxes are actually in the shade for most of the day also... And less dust than at Lembert .by Paris92 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
