Thanks for posting. I especially like the photos with fog/mist. If someone can only visit Yosemite once, they should do it on a clear day, so they can see everything...but if you're been there before, foggy/misty days are awesome. And sounds like it was a great trip even if you didn't get to most of your planned destinations...which is usually the case in Yosemite...by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
For transportation, you'll either need two cars, or plan for at least one person to hitchhike back to the starting TH, or exit the way you came in. Or some of you can go back to the car and some to the other TH. The YARTS bus will be running once a day but doesn't stop to pick up people at either of your trailheads. The Tuolumne Meadow shuttle bus didn't operate last year, and in any event onlby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I've parked there overnight, but that was a few years ago. Assuming it's still permitted - best place to check is the the yosemite web site - get there early to be sure to get a spot. And look for previous posts in this forum about where camping is permitted along the trail and where water is available.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I love it. And I have to bite: ever since I saw the youtube video of you skating on lower Sunrise Lake, I've wondered, when did you do that? There's almost no snow in the photo, which suggests this was a year when Tioga Road stayed open very late (like into January) - enough time for the high-altitude lakes to freeze enough to support a skater.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I've seen that sign - says something about those rocks being the oldest rocks in the Yosemite area. My hunch is that the old names will come back, but not tomorrow. A trial, if it happens, won't begin until at least late 2019. When all is said and done, this is a commercial dispute. DNC doesn't care about the TM registrations per se, it's peeved about losing the concession at Yosemite and wants to squeeze as much from the situation as possible, so it's saying "someone needs to pay uby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. There's lots of stuff on this forum about that area, poke around for it. Sounds like an leisurely itinerary, except for the Lower Sunrise back to Cathedral trailhead via Sunrise Lakes trailhead on the last day, with the walk along the road (mostly uphill) back to the car, as balzaccom noted. I don't know for a fact, but I suspect you're right. The internet has made information available for little cost, bringing news of - and spectacular photos from - places like Yosemite and Zion NPs to a much wider audience than was the case 30 and even 20 years ago, when you had to make a greater effort (at least get to the public library to look at some travel books) and had less information avaiby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Jimbo, here's last year's thread: https://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?17,92406,92406. It did NOT operate last year, despite statements in Yosemite Today and elsewhere that it operated. Can't testify as to whether or not this resulted in more trailhead parking congestion, as I was dropped off and picked up at my trailhead and didn't pay attention to the parking situation. I wouldn't be so pessimistic about the trails in the Hetch Hetchy area (although you might not be able to cross the bridges along the north side of the reservoir, check out reports on this forum from that area from two years ago when there was heavy snow). But as far as GPR goes, follow Coolburn's advice and monitor the plowing situation. I've been looking at the Badger ski area camera over the past hour or so and it looks like someone's been riding a snowmobile around in the middle of the night - there's a bright light that keeps moving around the photos. Poke around this forum for reports from other heavy snow years (2010, 2011, 2017) to get a feel for what might be this year, and check historical opening dates for Tioga Road, which is a proxy for snow levels. And keep in mind that a warm spring and rain could significantly change things. Also, is your permit for coming off the trail at Happy Isles? If not you'll need to change it to that.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
(Warning: the following is more legalese in plain English than anything else, so if this isn't your cup of tea, skip this post). Markshor is sort of right, but got some of the details wrong. As has been discussed in other contexts in this forum, the internet is wonderful and it's horrible. We scheduled a two-day stay in the Valley in February 2016, and only after I booked the room did I realize it was Horsetail falls viewing season. In early May, the waterfalls should be flowing in Yosemite. You'd be remiss to be in the SF area and not see the falls and Yosemite valley. So I would plan at a minimum taking one weekday (not Saturday or Sunday), getting up early (which should be easy to do as you'll have east coast jetlag for a few days), and do the 3-4 hour drive from the Bay area to Yosemite, even if you're only doing it foby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Chick-on, I miss your TRs, but I understand your reluctance to post them. I may eventually get around to doing a TR of an overnight trip from August, but in the vein of LNT not being followed, here's a photo from the southeast side of Nelson on that trip. Notice the soap bubbles lining the shore; they extended for probably another 100 yards beyond what's shown in the photo. Thanks for the link. Loving the parks to death is indeed a serious problem, and Instagram and the like are undoubtedly contributing to the problem (just as, I'm sure, Airbnb and similar services are driving up prices at places like Yosemite West). This post is prompted by something our youngest son said this morning. He's been to Yosemite twice. The first time was in February 2016. We did a snowshoe hike at the Badger Pass ski area (it was still called that then), then after lunch on the deck of the ski lodge went to the valley and watched Horsetail Falls turn orange at sunset, before settling in for the night at Yosemite Lodge. OK, I finally had a chance to look in PACER. In June the parties jointly requested ("motioned for", in lawyerspeak) an additional 45 days of discovery, which the court granted, and on August 30 they requested 148 days more, which was granted, so the close of discovery is now set for June 2019. I would think you could hire an Uber or Lyft driver in Merced or Manteca (if not closer to the park) to drive up to TM, explaining that you first need to drop off your rental vehicle in the Valley and the they'll take you from there.
