The NPS didn't cancel the contract with Delaware North, the contract ran out and was put out for bid. Aramark made them a better deal. It didn't help that there had been some issues between DNC and the park before the contract ran out. From what I remember, no other concessionaires, like Xanterra, put in a bid.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there Haven't looked it up but IIRC it's until 2030 or 2031. That is a long time to deal with Aramark.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Contracts can be 10 years or less but for major concessionaire contracts such as Delaware North, Xanterra and Aramark they can go up to 20 years. Off the top of my head, I don't know how long Aramark's contract is for and when it is up. I will try to find out.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I am finding that it now resembles a city park not a national park with all of it new traffic patterns in the valley, sidewalks along Tenaya Lake and removal of roadside parking. It is also no longer a place that is easy to visit if you are disabled. Walking is extremely painful for me so I can't enjoy areas that I used to be able to visit and due to being at high risk for Covid, I am not alloweby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. My son and girlfriend went skating there the other day. It was not a very pleasant time. The rink is even smaller than it was last year so it gets a bit dangerous when there is a lot of people on the ice. Especially since there are a lot kids, and adults, using those walkers to get around the ice and they fall, and the walkers fall into the path of skaters. While using the walkers, they also keby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Maybe the same thing could be done for Yosemite. Aramark has made a mess of things there. Not that I eat at the Ahwahnee often but the newest thing I read about is that the dining room is going to reopen many months later than it was projected, and all the meals will be buffet style. Really, a buffet is not what people want to have when they pay the prices that are charged. What about the issuby parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There are two types of bears in Japan. The Asiatic Black bear (Ursus thibetanus). They usually but not always have a light crescent moon shape marking on their chest. They are known to be aggressive towards humans. Japan also has a brown bear called Ussuri brown bears or Ezo brown bears ((Ursus arctos lasiotus)) which are distant relatives to the grizzly bears in North America. I am questioning a whole lot of things that are being done to the park by the NPS and its current supervisor in addition to what they are allowing Aramark to do. As a disabled person, I am finding with the changes in the traffic patterns in the valley and things that have been done along Tioga Road, that the park is turning into a place that only the physically abled can enjoy the park. Oh my. I have trouble remembering bird names as it is without having to relearn new names. I can see if the name is offensive in some way for it to be changed. Plus, if one has to use its "scientific" name that can also be problematic since some scientific names do have a person's name as part of it.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I am really late in posting this but has there been anything said about White Wolf Lodge ever reopening? Twice this summer when we were driving Tioga Road, we decided to look to see if any repairs are being done. The damage to the buildings looks like it is long term damage from lack of maintenance due to it being closed for several years in addition to damage from last winter's storm. I don't either. I have mentioned it multiple times during public comments. I have been thinking of contacting NPS Director Sams about the mismanagement of Yosemite. There are so many things that were supposed to be done and weren't and things, like the traffic pattern whose pilot study was done during non-normal visitation years and now is being made permanent should never been done. Unfortunately, there have been what I feel is a lot of lies. I am going to mention the campgrounds and how they have not been restored and now are being used as a dump in my comments for the Visitor Access Managment plan. More campgrounds mean less traffic. Plus, they need to realize that visitor satisfaction is not just about access and traffic but the overall experience.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Does anyone know what happened to the plan to restore some campsites in the former Upper River Campground? It is being basically used as a dump and is an eyesore. Plus, the park is asking the public for feedback on the Visitor Access Management Plan and having more campsites would allow more people to stay in the valley which would help with the traffic issue.by parklover - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
