I'm thinking about going up there in the next couple weeks for a hike to Green Treble Lake and maybe up to Finger Lake. Anyone been up to Saddlebag Lake recently? Water still going over the dam? The picture taken from the dam shows a lot of snow in the Green Treble Lake area and above. Has it melted? I'm not interested in snow hiking. Another question.... On Tuesday June 16th we got stopped on Tioga road for the construction. We spoke with the flag lady about progress on the road. She said they're way ahead of schedule because of the dry winter and the work they did before the road was opened. If anyone is looking to go to Ribbon Falls this is the time. We went today and it was absolutely excellent. The amphitheater is almost totally dry but there's still enough water for the falls to be a sight when you're there. You can walk right up to the base of the falls and not get soaked. On Saturday we made the hike from Saddlebag Lake to Shepherd's Crest. We did not ascend the last few hundred feet to the peak. We weren't interested in scrambling over the large rocks on a steep slope. We stopped at the 11,450' level where the last of the stunted pines ended. Thanks for the reports. Sounds like they're spotty. We don't take the regular trail. They've been there for a year. The only reason they'd be there for so long is if there was a queen present. Honey bees don't congregate like that for no reason. A brief review of Google search results indicates that the short growing season at 8000' puts a lot of stress on a hive so it may be small and not very robust. Well that's one way to look at it. Personally I don't think there are any bad views of Half Dome and I don't defer to landscape photographers as to what sort of pictures I like. I've seen plenty of landscape photographers engaging in the saturation game, more is better, something I don't agree with. But there is a large market out there for highly saturated images. Last week we hiked to Indian Ridge planning to photograph Half Dome from there. In previous years we had continued to North Dome but didn't want to go that far this year.
