Last time I looked, admittedly years ago, there was a Port-a-Poty behind the campground office that was built up to be 4 or 5 feet off the ground. In winter that's the snow level. In years past if you got the Wilderness permit you were pretty much guaranteed a HD permit. I looks like they've messed things up and reduced the daily count for wilderness permits from 100? to 25. Wilderness Permits Half Dome Permits for Backpackers I'll find out this summer when I show up trying to get my FCFS permits how much of a problem this change might be. Getting up to HIdden Falls isn't bad at all. Very little danger if you only go that far. Past that tho gets very sketchy very quickly. Please keep in mind that the LE rangers sometimes have calls that are far more important than a simple noise complaint. The one time I called dispatch for a overly aggressive climber trying to crash in our Camp 4 campsite the officer got called away. An employee elsewhere in the valley was 'brandishing a firearm'. Comb the hair out every morning to keep it and the scalp from getting too bad. Every few days change my tee-shirt to a clean one and give myself a t-bath ( take the tee shirt off, drench it with water, wipe everything off I can reach, if the shirt wasn't brown before it certainly is afterwards! ) Clean socks every couple of mornings, use lots of foot powder! I have a copy of "Off the Wall" and read all the SAR and accident/incident reports I can find. I don't get out there very often and as a result I haven't gained as much experience by 'doing' as many others. I try do do everything I can so as to be prepared for those occasions when I do go out there.
