Quotehotrod4x5 Cairns on a trail are placed usually 10-20 feet apart, in a line. Not gathered in a "forest." I would expect them to be as few as possible, line of sight, usually much more than 10-20 feet apart unless you're in thick forest.by qumqats - General Discussion
The Crane Flat lookout is pretty interesting. They've got a visitor registry you can sign. And a set of captioned photos telling you what peaks etc. you can see in each of the 4 directions. There's a BIG difference between functionally useful trail markers and socially motivated rock art. It's usually going to be pretty easy to determine which is which. I try to winter camp in Yosemite valley when it's snow weather, not rain. I don't want to get wet! Camp 4 is FirstComeFirstServed, so you don't need to worry about reservations. Quotegophersnake From the articles I've found online about the lawsuit, I understand the plaintiffs lost. It's also obvious that a line used to go up the Ledge Trail gully to Glacier Point. Some of the wire is draping down the east cliff onto the upper part of the trail as the gully starts closing in. It actually makes a pretty good hand hold to pull yourself up. A bit farther down on the east side is a point where there are 3 eye hooks that I'd guess were used to guy a pole to support the line.by qumqats - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
