My uncle was camp ranger at CG #15 in the summer of '61...back in the day when each CG had a resident ranger with Curry like tents to stay in. And my wife and I spent part of our honeymoon there in 1969. Just drove in on a Saturday (the day after the 4th of July) and got a spot. We have always liked #14 better (lower pines now). Still hate walking by Upper River and seeing the mess there...doby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
When I worked in the Valley in the Fall of .65 we'd drive through the orchard at night to see the eyes of the bears in the trees. Sort of like watching submarine races.by calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

This from this month's Yosemite Guide: After more than 95 years in service, The Ahwahnee is continuing a multiphase comprehensive rehabilitation plan to preserve the hotel’s historic integrity, while bringing the building to code with modern fire and seismic safety standards. Over on the TripAdvisor Yosemite Forum there is a lot of discussion about concerns over the availability of parking spaces. Some of the comments amount to: Once you find a spot stay parked in it and walk or take the shuttle to everywhere else you want to go. . I'm glad you asked that question, I had pretty much forgotten about it...until I'm waiting in line at the stop lights. The key to getting info. is knowing that it was the Ferguson slide, and therefore the Ferguson project. Well, we'll be there in 4 weeks, so I can live it 1st hand. We'll be staying at the Lodge for 3 nights, and Sentinel will be closed. So, as I understand it, we will have to drive to Stoneman to then get back to the Lodge, and then enter it across from the old gas station. And if we want to have dinner one night at the Ahwahnee to help celebrate our anniversary (we ate there one night on ouby calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
OK, I just realized that I have been out of the loop for a while, and had not seen the 'new' traffic patterns that were introduced since our last visit in Nov. of '21. Well, in 3 plus weeks I'll get to see/use them in person.by calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So does this mean that while construction is going on, to get to the Lodge you have to go all the way to Stoneman bridge on south side and turn left? And then to get to the Village from the Lodge you have to go all the way down to the El Cap bridge on northside and go back up Southside?by calberry - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Here's my story of patience, tenacity, and flexibility in planning on how to celebrate our 54 wedding anniversary. 1. Just saw this on Facebook: Due to a forecast of flooding, Lower and North Pines Campgrounds and Housekeeping Camp will close on Monday morning, May 15. Additional closures are possible. We will provide an update by Monday evening, May 15. Unlike the last month’s forecast of flooding, the extended forecast calls for warm weather indefinitely.
