Good looking stuff! I especially like the view of the people on Half Dome. Thanks for posting!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was excited to see your report as I'll be up in that area in July. Thanks for posting!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Right on! Thanks for posting a report and photos. You covered a lot of ground, especially if you consider the driving. Kudos!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Gorgeous! It reminds me of the book "Missing in the Minarets" about Walter Starr Jr, which I thought was a good read. Thanks for the photos.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotemrcondron QuoteJasonS My wife and I both do carry 2L water each, and it's in the heavy Nalgene bottles so I need to fix that. I use Schweppes Tonic Water 1 liter bottles. They weigh nothing, are cheap, indistructable, and are fun to make available. The older ones have a large opening and are very easy to drink out of. The newer ones are standard 1 liter bottles. I'll look into itby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteSoCalCPA How much additional weight do you think water adds to a pack - litre for litre? I just took this photo here at work. A 15 year old Nalgene bottle, not 'full' technically, but above the 1 Liter mark: 2lbs 9.6oz. That's a pretty quick and easy savings of 2.5lbs if you're in an area with plenty of water.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteOL We filled up at a small, unmarked creek which crosses the trail about 1/2 mile before the sign "0.3 miles to Indian Rock". Roughly 25 min from our camp. Royal Arch creek is about a 15 min descent, but 25 min back up. On the way there's an un-named creek bed, but it was already(!) dry. Cool. Thanks for the info. Just looked through your photos again, good stuff!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteJustKeepWalking I think JasonS's trip to Elizabeth sounds fabulous! I didn't see a mention of bugs, and I've always found that area lovely. What a treat to spend the day exploring and enjoying the details! Makes me want to go back there... It was fabulous! Regarding bugs, I didn't think to mention it because I didn't see any. Not a single one as far as I rememeber. I think eeek mby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotetomdisco Of course, there's another factor at work here,--our own body weight. .....................I'll skip polling that one to protect the guilty. (sigh) Guilty. Oh so very guilty! Last year I made an effort to reduce my pack weight, and I got it below 40lbs finally, from the 45-50 it was before. Wow! What a glow on the face of Half Dome. I too have been wanting to do an overnight on top of North Dome. By the way, where did you get your water? Thanks for the report.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thermarest Neoair Trekker (I think?). I've only used it a few times but it's comfy and I love how small it packs.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotetomdisco I agree. Post your day trips as well, especially if you have photos. Elizabeth lake is one of those that often get ignored in favor of other locations but there is nothing shabby about that destination. Still on my list of trails to do. Sigh! So many places to see. Thanks for posting. Jim 10-4! Thanks for the encouragement.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteOhnivy-Drak QuoteJasonS QuoteOhnivy-Drak Is it me, or is the Tuolumne River turning pink? Is this in reference to one of my photos? If so, I'm a bit confused. Sorry, nothing to do with your photos. Just referring to one particularly fowl creature. He's doing his best to hide, but my utility belt tracks him down. No worries! QuoteOhnivy-Drak Not many of my trips seem worthy of a report. The epic stuff is just crazy - in comparison, mine are zzzzz. Ha ha! That's how I feel, but only about my trips. I enjoy reading about peoples trips that are similar in scope to mine, but for some reason assume that my "Five Mile Roundtrip" isn't worthy. Not that anyone on the forum has ever made me feel unwelcome.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Last Sunday my wife, brother-in-law and I headed up to Tuolumne Meadows for a short day hike and to do a bit of fishing. Granted, it's nothing like the 'epics' some of you post on here, but it was wonderful just the same. The only issue: not enough time in the day. It was nice to be back on the trail in the High Country now that Winter is gone. Approaching the lake. One ofby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quotehotrod4x5 I haven't camped there in almost 20 years, all they had then was a tall pole thingy and a place to hang your stuff. You know........I thought the same thing about Illillouette Creek, at the junction coming from Mono Meadow. From 20 years ago I remember some sort of structure and/or cable thingy that wasn't there this past year. I wonder it that's the same thing you're talking aby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. That first photo gives me the heebie-jeebies! I love being up on stuff like that, but to look over the edge I'd lay down and carefully crawl up to the edge. Thanks for the photos!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Cool! There must be a reason it's named "Slaughterhouse Meadow"........ is it as obvious as it seems? An old slaughter house was there back in the day? Anyone know?by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Very cool! It's just like being there......except for the sights, sounds, smells, sun on my back, feeling of happiness, etc. It'll have to do for now though, as I sit in my cubicle wondering why the air conditioning isn't running.
