Thanks for the comments and feedback everyone. It took me a while to get it done, but here's the short video from the storm. The lightning strike is at 0:25. You can tell we were nervous, I sort of giggle at the end and you can hear my wife say "Oh man......"by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the report. Way to deal with the sickness and just keep going. Yeah the crowds can suck, but if you want to see the valley highlights, go in March or October. Or winter. Way less people. Anyway, it sounds like you had a good time. Congrats for pulling it off.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
(sigh) I don't know what I expected...........but like they say: there are no stupid questions, just stupid people. Thanks for the photo and giving me the opportunity to ask such a brilliant question!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Sweet report! Thanks for the taking the time to post it. I took a similar trip a few years ago, but unfortunately I did stop at Le Conte, wrongly believing it to be Waterwheel. I guess it gives me a reason to go back. I enjoyed following along and remembering some of the sights from that past trip. Thanks!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteTechieSteve Just one final post, to say I am very, very sorry for the long post, with lots of images, and rambling text.......................... As you probably figured out by now, we've been devouring everything you write, enjoying each image and tagging along the whole way. It does take a bit of time and effort to create a trip report, so thanks! I'm glad you had such a wonderful tripby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Holy Cow! I'm really loving the trip reports. I'd love to do this trip some day and it looks like you had plenty of time to explore. Thanks for posting and taking me along on your adventure.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Sweet! Thanks for the report. Now I sort of get to see what I missed by cutting our loop short. It looks incredible up there, great photos too.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Here we go! Proof that a short three day, two night trip can lead to an interesting trip report (hopefully). Some of you may remember me asking about the availability of water in Rafferty Creek about two weeks ago. This was going to be our second backpacking trip of the year and my wife and I had planned to do the Lyell/Vogelsang/Rafferty loop over four days. Instead it turned into a threeby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Sweet! Thanks for continuing to post about your trip. I too have camped at Illillouette and had it feel incredibly remote. My wife and I were there for two nights (I was fishing, she was relaxing) and we only saw a couple people. Looking forward to the next update.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I'm really enjoying the report! Looks like a spectacular time. I need to check out the Mono Pass area one of these days. Thanks for taking us along.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Fantastic! I just spent 5 minutes reading the report and referencing an online map as I 'followed' along. It's almost like being there, except I'm in a cubicle right now. Looking forward to part two!by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteJustKeepWalking BB wasn't sure any of you would read my chatty long report, but some of you did! Yay! Thanks! Heck yeah I read it. Thanks for writing it and taking us along (you too Basilbop!).by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Fantastic report and beautiful photos! Whenever I'm at a creek or lake I'm torn between swimming and fishing, but at least I have options! JustKeepWalking, did the bug you saw look like this? The one on the left is the hatched version, there one on the right is the larvae husk. I took these last year on Illillouette when we were camping (and fishing). Hey Everyone! Do you think there will be water available in Rafferty Creek / Canyon about two weeks from now? I ask because I'm considering doing the Lyell / Vogelsang / Rafferty Loop July 25th thru 28th. I already have my permit. What I may not have is the fitness, so lets get that out of the way first: My wife and I do a bit of dayhiking and we backpack once or twice a year. I'veby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Yep! Yosemite! But you're also correct about Yosemite Creek. It's less than a mile downstream from the campground. It's a neat little place, I regret having not gone for a swim.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Although Yosemite is within "day trip" distance for me and I feel like I've spent a considerable amount of time in the park over the last 15 years, I am continually amazed by some of the members here and the frequency and scope of their trips. I'm just curious how long it will take someone to identify the waterfall below. I was doing a bit of fishing on July 5th and while you woulby JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Lovely photos! Lots of granite and beautiful water, it looks like an amazing time. The snake is gorgeous too. The only time I've seen one I was unsure whether it was venomous or not, so I left it alone. Next time I'll be ready for some 'catch and release' so I can appreciate it up close and personal.by JasonS - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
