On the last day that Tioga Road was open, the group camp at Tuolumne was being used as storage...piles of rocks and gravel, plus stacks of cut trees. It might be possible that there will be parking where the old gas station was, but I suspect that lot was available because all of the equipment had been removed for the winter.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Tell me about it! Weird indeed. We have been overcast with thunder all week but could barely "eeek" out a few drops. NW of Bishop, we still felt influenced by being in a rain shadow even though it was monsoon moisture. Finally, on Friday, we got 7/10ths inch of rain! Death Valley got more than their share. As did some of the south county trailheads.by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Nice! After my dad passed away, three of us sisters and a few of the nephews went on a cruise to Alaska. (2010) I was freaking out because, how could I be on a ship that had more bodies on it than the town of Bishop! Balcony room was the key and, wow, what an experience! No flying...drove to Seatle. All of us except one nephew. Picked him up at the Portland Airport. I'll have to say..by hikerchick395 - General Discussion

Up June 6-7-8 and13th. One wait was 40 minutes. On June 8 we drove in early...missed the construction stop by just minutes. Our last wait was 25 minutes, then another stop to wait for oncoming pilot car near the visitor center. Over eight miles on that one... (First day was 3 1/2 miles.) We were there the week before you and it was quite busy. When I made reservations, I didn't realize that it was Easter week. So, we did expect crowds. But it was a bit stormy, so a lot of people left, as far as camping, and not so many came in for a few days. Got to see frazil ice!by hikerchick395 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I wouldn't be surprised to have new fire discoveries from Mon-Tue-Wed thunderstorms. I hiked Tuesday and had 60 or more episodes of lightning/thunder right overhead. And yesterday I hiked and smelled smoke, but yesterday's storms, starting at 6:30am had no thunder/lightning. On the last hike came across a camp occupied by a family of five. It covered the area of more than a half an acre. The tents weren't as brightly colored as the hammocks and a tarp over the kitchen. One tent was 15 to 20 feet from the lakes edge. What a visual impact! Brightly colored hammocks are everywhere...like an epidemic. In 1989 I wrote an article for our local newspaper about the CCC and INFS crews working on the that trail. Many causeways, steps, waterbars and sections of rip rap that you traveled were created that year. The conditions looks normal now (from your photos.) Lots of snow and water earlier this season.
