Idiot is a bit harsh, don't you think? There's no information to indicate he was driving recklessly. With a sidecar, I doubt he was driving the way crotch rocket kids do. The guy's dead, remember that part?by hotrod4x5 - General Discussion

QuoteUlysses61 The buffet at CV is pretty good, I will agree there. We'll have to agree to disagree about their pizza, however. Truth be told, I haven't had the CV pizza since probably 3 years ago. I had their buffet and pizza from the Loft a couple months ago.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteUlysses61 Curry Village has cabins, not motel rooms. . The food in Curry Village is pretty bad (the pizza tastes like cardboard), but the ambiance is far superior, IMO, to Yosemite Lodge. .Pretty bad is a bit harsh. I think their pizza is pretty good, not as good as the Loft, but not bad. And their buffet is decent as well.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I believe they are referring to the Stoneman rooms. My preference would be a Deluxe Room in the Lodge (what most Yosemite long time visitors call it for short). Request a room with a view of Yosemite Falls, although it may not be flowing at that time, but those rooms are nicer, IMO. I've stayed at both the standard and deluxe rooms at the Lodge as well as cabins and Stoneman rooms. As farby hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

If they aren't hikers, then having them do anything over about 3 miles will just be miserable for them. Trust me, I have been there, done that. The best hikes for non hikers are the valley loops, the short loop at the base of Yosemite Falls, the short hike to the Tuolumne Grove (uphill on the return), Mirror Lake, the base of Bridalveil Fall and to the bridge below Vernal Fall. October is going to be better than Sept. The later in the month, the better. I prefer Upper Pines, simply because I have a 31 ft. fifth wheel and it is easier for me to maneuver around in Upper Pines.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

If I am ever in Yosemite and need gas, I drive past El Portal about 10 minutes to that little store on the south side of the highway, I am not sure if it is Midpines or what it's called, but their gas is usually 50 cents lower than El Portal.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotey_p_w Quotebtnme thanks for the info Y_P_W No problem. I also wanted to clarify that it's actually two bridges. They set up two bridges to access an old road across the Merced River from the slide area. The traffic is controlled in each direction via automated traffic lights. The paths onto and off of the bridge are at a right angles, so that's what the length restriction is about.by hotrod4x5 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

5>41>140 doesn't seem right. Go 5>99>Exit Minturn Road to Le Grand. Make a right on Le Grand Rd, then go through the tiny town heading north on Cunningham Rd. Finally, make a right on 140. Heh, maybe I did see it, I dunno, it has been a few years. What I do remember is that the road seemed to disappear, and at the time, I didn't have the info about the switchbacks, so I didn't look for the road above me. I believe across from tunnel view is about where I turned around. The potential problem I see with reserving for TM is what if they don't open in time if we have another wet year? Perhaps reserve tents at both locations, and then cancel whichever one you don't need. TM would definitely be my preference.
