I have been to Yosemite four times in the past few months. Three times all was well at the entrance. Once it was awful. The terrible one was the Sunday of the Juneteenth weekend. 2 solid hours at the Big Oak Flat entrance. Got to the entrance gate at noon. Went to Yosemite a few weeks ago, on a Thursday. Got to the Arch Rock (El Portal) entrance at 7:30 am or so am. There was no line asby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Picked up a copy of this book at our local used bookstore. What a delightful little book. Easy and enjoyable reading. It's a journal written by the geologist Le Conte's son, when he was 19. He went on a camping trip to Yosemite with his dad and a few classmates. Especially enjoyable for the northern California folks as the journal includes his trip from Berkeley to Yosemite via boat (to Stby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Good for him. That's impressive. When I was a teenager, I hiked Half Dome with a family friend who at the time seemed very old to me (he was maybe 45). He commented you know you're old when everyone keeps telling you good job on the trail. Well, years later I hiked HD when I was 40 myself. It was a hard climb for me and I struggled near the top. I wouldn't have a problem with letting the fire burn if we were more consistent. We have discussed this in the past on this board too, but I dislike the picking and choosing of what we save/what we don't, and then being absolutist about it. The example from my own backyard is the San Pablo bay. Qe spent lots of money "restoring the marshlands" to their "natural" way. But gby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I love going to Yosemite, but I also very much enjoy the drive from Northbay, once we pass 99 (east of 99). Whether it's 4, 120, 140 driving through Farmington, Knights Ferry or Hornitos. Going through Escalon I wondered about the majestic sycamores that line 120/Jackson Ave and wrote their historical society asking about their history. They responded with this recently digitized photo. Thoughby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Been to Yosemite twice the past month and both times paid up for visiting the Ahwahnee. Don't like it, but paid it. We ate there, so it came down to $10. What bothers me is that they charge and don't staff it. Second time there we were a large group (5 cars) and they had only attendant working. We tipped the guy generously as he was working very hard. Maybe firemappers' history part answers your question: https://napsg.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=6dc469279760492d802c7ba6db45ff0e If you click on the ... near fire history, you can change the transparency which may make it easier to see the boundaries. We went on a Sunday a few weeks ago (in May), arrived around 2 pm, and had maybe two cars in front of us. So it's somewhat random. I think one of the issues is that light at the Ferguson rockfall. It bunches up people creating a big line instead of a more even flow. In general cell service seemed rather poor (we have AT&T) so I don't know how accurate traffic data are, but I wonder if befby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteeLeMeNOhPee I was planning on going this weekend, the 10-11, but now there's 60% chance of rain and Tstorms. Really don't want to cancel but my companion is concerned about being outside in the rain for 2 days since we're camping. I feel like it'll be one of those very scattered storms with little rain. Any advice? I would go and then if it's miserable, come home early. This year is so uniby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
All the links were very cool, including the time-lapse. I like the rockshed design. Different topic, but saw it on the Caltrans District 10 page. I took a bus tour when I was there (the tram tour became a bus tour to our disappointment) since I had a number of elderly folks with me. I would not cancel it. I was worried our trip would get canceled before or midway (I was taking a group of 20!) and neither happened. Not saying it may not in your case, but the water has ended up lower than they forecasted. I don't know if it's because the temperatures were lower or the models weren't accurate. who knows. Anyway, even now if you look they seem to have adjusted it down. If yoby recycling1991 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Was fortunate to be in Yosemite Valley two weeks in a row (a day or two each time). Came back from the last trip this Tuesday. The park is amazing. I have been going to Yosemite for many years, and have seen many beautiful Mays but this year is something different. Every waterfall that's on a map is flowing. I am taking a group of folks to Yosemite next month; 50 to 85 years old (a young group ;-) ) Most have never been there. It's our friends group and they have always heard me talk about it and I got them all to book rooms at the Lodge last year for this year. Well, the trip is coming up so I need to plan it now. We will be in South Lake Tahoe in a couple of weeks dropping off a family member for the TRT hike. I had thought of spending a night in the eastern Sierra and then coming back over 120 (assuming I could get a permit) so I could hang out in Tuolumne meadows and see some marmots. Thank you for the report. Enjoyed reading it very much. Even read parts of it to my family. We were there just before you, also stayed in Curry Village, and ate at the lodge, and debated taking the shuttle. But the previous year we had spent so much time waiting for the shuttle, combined with the fact that the shuttle stop right by our lodging (Stoneman) was out of service made us drive.
