30+ days on the trail is admirable. The only people I know who can do that are retired, or have seasonal jobs. Congrats on being able to do that.by The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Great report, thanks for posting. I know everyone is different, but I find that acclimating around 8K for 2 days (3 nights) is better for me. Even so I still get the I'm not hungry for the first few days and have to force myself to eat. Quotebalzaccom I am a little unclear on why the park rangers don't knock these down. Maybe they get grief from the tourists. But if you are destroying non-compliant fire rings, why wouldn't you also destroy these silly rock piles? I suppose you have to pick your battles. If the rangers knocked them down, they'd be back the next day. It's a fruitless exercise unless you hire more rangers to poliby The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

I'd be interested in your technique for taking a panorama pic of stars. You almost have to use a tripod with a rotator ? I certainly couldn't do it hand held due to the relatively long exposure times....by The Other Tom - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quoteplawrence I found out reading some old Yosemite guidebooks. It's a very appropriate name: FRontier. So how one would originally call the Yosemite Lodge would have been by telling a telephone operator to connect with FRontier 2-1274. Yea, or by saying FR2-1274. I remember my phone number from my childhood was UL9-xxxx. UL stood for Ulysses. When asked for our phone number, we would sby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I guess this thread has drifted off topic a bit, so I'll add to it I was fortunate enough to get the second desktop (Apple) computer at our company in the early '80s. I was a "heavy" user of their spreadsheet application and I quickly learned the importance of storage. Later, when our IT guy set up our first server, I asked him how much storage it would have. Thanks for the annotation. When I see pictures like this I'm amazed at how the ranges look like waves....almost like at the ocean but it's rock instead of water. Makes me wonder how it formed. Anyway, thanks for the update. In my experience, you have to be lucky/prepared to get pics like this.
