yeah, i had pre selected the dates, campsite (random one hoping nobody else was on it, probably site 157 or so), and everything so all i had to do was click BOOK THESE DATES and no luck. every other year, no problem. Fortunately I got 6 nights at crane flat as my second option cuz the valley was for sure sold out. screw those scalping bots. im happy they've resolved that issue. didnt see that scaby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Odds of 120 opening may 4th? I checked the historic tioga road opening dates, and the earliest was may 3, in 1987. The average is may 27. So I highly doubt it will be open but this winter is going to be dry, unless we get a late storm is it possible?by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I have actually seen it from Lower Gaylor, but wanted to go much closer. My girl is kinda a newbie, so cant really get her out much more than a day hike. We were there during the rim fire, so stuck in valley. We did go down to the Vernal falls pool, and that was new and amazing.by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I was going to note, that we've all probably done much more dangerous things. It was rather safe actually.by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I know a lot of you think its dangerous, stupid, or plain senseless to swim under vernal falls, but after making the very short detour down there, I couldnt resist. There is also a 15 foot rock jump. Just be smart, safe, aware of your surroundings, and extremely cautious, and its all in a days fun. Although I dont know about the one guy climbing the slick rock directly below the falls, that is soby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I think its definitely easier to locate pano point on the way down pano trail. Your practically staring it straight down as you turn to keep heading toward half dome. Boy we got lucky. We went thursday to sunday. Clear through saturday, but sunday was nasty. The looks on the peoples faces as they walked up to the tunnel view lookout were priceless. What would you guys do. Go or cancel. trip plans are leave tomorrow (thureday 9/5) at 3 am, arrive before 10 am. staying until sunday.. Site is in the valley at lower pines. Is there any way to tell how bad the smoke will be? My friend went last fri-sun and said half the time was smokey, the other half was good and the park was empty....im so tornby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I know what ya mean, i was thinking about the refund. Would like to cancel in time for refund, so i guess that means i have til thursday-friday to figure out, just dont wanna be stuck up there, force to hike down, in smokeby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There all booked for friday, now im wondering if i should cancel the saturday bus ride up and just do something else all togetherby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
ill be arriving thursday, planned on taking the bus to GP then hike to the valley via panorama trail on saturday, Im wondering, should i try to switch it to friday? That way i have freedom on saturday, the possible smokey day, to roam around and find something to do away from the smoke.by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Judging by the pictures above, it cant be that low as in your pictures eek, right? I agree not to expect a whole lot, but if its flowing a bit more than nevada is now, i should be ok. On the other hand maybe I shouldnt focus to much on this traill. I am a wee bit worried about them closing more of the 120 toward TM though, my site is in the valley. Lets hope they get some control on this fire, foby cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

My girl really wants to do the glen aulin day hike to the HSC, maybe a bit firther to mcgee lake or the other 3 falls. But i need to know if anyone has any recent pictures of White cascade or Tuolumne falls. I am not going all the way down there if the water is really low, which im assuming it is, but im also assuming there is still something. Any info/pictures on these 2 falls would be great. I really like the idea of going across from potter, and then up 6-800 ft up. That and the spot 8.5 in are good. I think we also might try and wait in line for a permit, although its unlikely.by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
What is the likelihood that they will shut down the 120 inside Yosemite within the next 2 weeks? It cant stretch that far right?by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
11 miles 1 way? I meant 13-14 round trip. So if i go about 7 miles in I wont be able to see the glacier?by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The title says it all. How far into Lyell canyon do I have to go to get a good view of Lyell glacier? I just want to keep it under 13-14 miles. I have the Hiking in Yose. book by suzanne swedo, a falcon guide that shows a picture of the glacier in under 11 miles round trip so im assuming its possible.by cantwait2getback - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
